I think you'll need to explain the term "Crispy", also pics would help.

What do you use to wash?

When I get crispy an AVC soak followed by a baking soda wash softens them up.

I use this dreadhead shampoo to wash them, every 3 or 4 days. I've never added anything to them, they were crispy the day they were made and I thought it would go away but after 3 weeks I am concerned they are gonna be crispy for life! haha.

so scatteredleaves you are saying if I wait longer the crispiness will go away?

that's all I'm asking, if someone can tell me whether they will soften a bit or not, I know waiting will give me the answer but I would like someone elses experience/opinion

mine were crispy as you say, i said crunchy..lol i backcombed as well, after they started to tighten and mature, that feeling went away, took about 6 to 8 months i would say, your feelin the loose hair crunching around and knotting up, when there isnt much more room for them to move it slowly stops... also sometimes after i wash mine, they get that feeling if i didnt rinse good enough, dont know if that might be part of yer problem, but as new as they are, i would say it the first explanation is the best, hope it helps.

thank you vulgar for your dready tale! I hope we were in the same boat and I guess that sounds about right as the crunchy/crispiness (haha) appears to be from all the weird tiny loops sticking out of my dread

I'd change up your shampoo. The DHHQ stuff is great if your hair is healthy but I found that it really dried my hair up and had to use it sparingly. (which is how it 'encourages' locking). Seriously give the AVC rinse/baking soda wash a try.

I think its from over working your dreads thats too much work for just starting dreads

thats just my opinion take it or leave it

since you crocheted you could prolly get away with a little conditioner I use conditioner when my hair feels a little dry but just a small amount mixed with a good bit of water to thin it out.

I know what you mean by Crispy, Mine got like that as soon as i used the Crochet Hook.. When they start to loosen they wont feel so crispy. What it is, is a mixture of Backcombing and Crocheting the hairs are breaking which gives that feeling, im assuming once they start locking they wont feel that way. I myself am only at two month and they dont feel crispy so that can give you an idea. Hope this helps.

They look great. As someone mentioned, ACV does seem to make them feel softer. See if it helps. But either way, they will not be crispy for life :)
