I'm very confused about what people think of my work. Last September, I wrote a normal essay for school, not thinking it was anything amazing. After I read it in front of my class, my teacher said it was the best piece of literature she's heard in 5 years, including college work. I was only in 10th grade. Which was very cool since I want to be an English teacher and writing is a hobby of mine. I even asked around to find out if she would "just say that" and everyone said definitely not. So I was thrilled and that gave me some confidence to show people my work and everyone said it was great. But everytime I submit something, even for something as small as the county, nothing ever gets printed. I submitted my BEST work. Maybe I haven't submitted to the right place? I don't know. What should I do? Maybe it isn't as good as I think it is. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

    Keep on truckin'.

You won't be a full blown writer until you get told to get a real job by some editor with a rubber band for an imagination!

Good is Good- but you got to please some weasel-head somewhere.

So keep writing, and sooner or later your work and the appropriate publication will meet and you will see your words in print.
If your good enough, of course.

    keep writing and submitting.

go even smaller than county. does your town have a newspaper? your school? submit to them, and start small. that may give you some sort of local reputation if you keep churning out the goods and they keep printing 'em. then move up to county later on.

i admire your determination though. with that, you'll get so much further.

I suggest you hook up with other writers. You may well be sending the wrong sort of thing, or trying the wrong sort of market. You can get a lot of good advice at freelancers forums like the Absolute Write Water Cooler, and get work critiqued and discusssed at places like critiquecircle.com
