I am curious if anyone who uses LSD regularly considers themself an athiest. By athiest I mean you believe that the physical world is "all there is", and that when you die that is the end of your awareness. My guess would be that anyone who has used LSD regularly believes in more than just the physical world, even though there may be disagreement about the details.

I don't think it has anything to do with LSD. I'm agnostic and i find myself often getting depressed because it just seems so much like when you die that's it. I'm neither for, or against the existence of god because i have no proof for gods existence or nonexistence. I don't see how you could believe in god, or disbelieve without proof one way or the other. Though i've noticed that when i'm coming down off of acid i start to think about that really deeply, and it only depresses me further. I wise i could have just been an ignorant little fuck and not even really put that much logical thought toward the subject. Then i could be happy. But it's to late for that. Logic doesn't always take you to a happy ending.

    ahhhhh very interesting topic
although i think it is rather easy for some to completely dismiss the more enlightening effects of lsd as being just drug induced psychosis, and some people may treat it as a completely party drug without ever fully experiencing or appreciating the mind expansion and spiritual benifits of the lsd experience

however i think the experiences from mushrooms and cacti offer a more profound gateway intothe unknown and the revealations they reveal are harder to dissmiss as purely just a fun way to pass the time

having sid that i dont belive psychodelics really reveal answers, but they do open your mind to the right questions and give you a glimpse of a greater reality

i guess it all depends on how you define lsd users
theres the munch a bunch and sit around playin vidio games type trippers which most likely wont have much in the way of spiritual journeys (unless pac-mans waka waka waka becomes like a mantra )

then theres the other type who take lsd, only for a sorta drug induced vissionquest and seek a greattter understanding of reality/nonreality
these ones i believe arent very likely to be athiest, but i would think most would be somewhat hesitant to attempt to define the unknown in the way religions have traditionaly
but i think they'd all agree that theres more tothe universe then can be seen or felt

i have used lots of psychedelics(lsd, shrooms, cacti, rc's), and I'm an atheist.
i believe we are just animals... we are born, we live, we die, thats it.

I'm an atheist too, but I've never done acid. I've tried to three times though. I keep getting ripped off.

No , im not an atheist...

Beleiving isnt what gets me anymore...Realizing. No Doubt possible. Consider everything.

Religions, they all point to the same truth, but its like mainstream music to catch everybody in.

I know for sure that it's a big, strange world, and we as humans have capabilities that we are unaware of. This has nothing to do with a god.
Anyone who says that they know anything about the origin or purpose of this or other possible dimensions is talking out of their rear end.

Atheists say for certain that there is no god.
Religious nuts say for certain that there is a god.

To me, they're both stubborn and irrational. You can't be positive about something you don't know about for sure. That's just the definition.

    Me, I don't know.

Maybe there is no god. (We naturally have anthropomorphic tendencies.)Atheists might be right, but it would be a coincidence since NOBODY knows for sure.

I also know that there just might be a god. Sure, why not? He has a lot to answer for, etc. but okay, if this world can exist, I guess anything is possible. But what a wacky, absolutely insane coincidence it would be if God's wishes were truly expressed by one of the thousands and thousands of religions, cults, etc. that man has invented.

Agnosticism is the only way to go. Nobody really Knows anything, and that is the one and only truth in this life.

I'm close to those darn atheist bastards but overall I still fit in the agnostic idealogy.

To be clear though, I do not believe in a GOD such as created by the writers of the bible and such...

LSD brings out the basics that are usually overlooked. Enhanced perception of the every day, unveiling of human society instilled preconceptions. Also, to get high. Anything beyond that is imagination's gone wild, coming soon to a dvd near you. Buzz with the earth, chew on your toe, pet a leaf, break your brain you dont need one anyway.

I'm a musician...I make my own music. But like any mucisian, I have my influences, I borrow ideas from others and make my own song.

I would say that on the surface, I'm an atheist, but there are times I like to entertain a "fantasy" type belief about the existence of "higher beings" that are essentially what most people concieve of as the spirit of a person..it's a long story.

I'll expound later when I'm not so busy with classwork.

Even Stephen Hawking acknowledges that there is some kind of higher being out there.

NEWSFLASH: Not all of Steven Hawking's theories and opinions are right or true. He has no direct line to God. Hammering out a unified field theory might provided some insight into what is going on here, but it still will not be the equivalent of a signed 8x10 color glossy.

Given the seemingly infinite nature of the universe, and the impossibility of any of this all existing, I'd say it's very unlikely that there isn't some higher conciousness. I'm quite sure it'd be nothing like any of us imagined it to be, it probably bears no relation on our destiny and probably doesn't even know we, the human race, exists.

I have a theory on fractal life, which basically states that life continues in all directions - from the smallest neutrino up to the universe itself and beyond. We are organisms that live off the earth, the earth is an organism that lives off the sun, the sun is part of the organism that is our galaxy, and that galaxy is part of the organism that is the universe. I'm sure the universe is part of some bigger organism in turn, one that we may never hope to see or understand (unless someone invents time travel :D)

One need only look to the theory of how the universe began to make obvious comparissons with life on a recognizable level. The universe grew from the smallest seed (whatever that seed was), and used the nutrients around it to grow into a fully fledged universe. Today, the universe is old, but still growing. One day, like any other living thing (be it an insect, a human, or yes, a planet, star, or galaxy), it will die.

It won't be the last universe, it isn't the only universe, and whatever it is that the universe itself is contained within won't be the only one of those either. There's no such thing as nothingness, no such thing as "the end", or the edge of existence, because the universe came from somewhere.

The only halfway rational explanation for any of this existing, is that infinity runs in all directions. Unless infinity can be accepted, there will forever be unanswerable questions.

I think that LSD has only encouraged my athiesm. The physical world is all we have, but it truly depends on how we percieve it and live within it. There is a balance here, and there is so much beauty. Explore this earth and this life instead of contemplating philosophical ideals. Next time you feel like there is something greater, get off your ass, go to a forest, and realize that all you need is already here.
