Another Dog fighting ring busted here.

WTF. How the fuck can people watch and bet on this shit. This is the most barbaric thing I can think of. And please spare me the analogies between dog fighting and boxing or ultimate fighting or something else that people do to each other. People can choose if or if not they want to do these thing's. These Dogs have no choice. It's so sad to see these dogs that they rescue from this horrible life, they don't want to fight they are made to. It's like Roman spectacle. But this is 2008. People involved in this need to be made to fight to the death for our amusment.

Not that I condon the thing. I despise it. I can't fucking stand animal cruelty. But much like we let the nuts in our society, that may not have been nuts if it weren't for their upbringing, be nuts, shouldn't we let the doggies that might breed another fighter fight to the death? I'm no vet. I dont know how it works. And even as quickly as I can type I'm starting to think of reasons that what I just wrote is retarded, but still. If that dog wants to fight, and the other dog wants to fight, who are we to blame?

those dogs don't necessarily want to fight, thanks to their great owners, they are brought up to kill and fight, it's not two natural wild dogs on the street that run into each other and they scrap.. Nope, this is different, this is training and bringing a dog up to kill other dogs for human benefit.. It's a bit different...

how 'bout cockfights? so far as i can tell, roosters are vicious little bastards when not socialized from birth and frankly enjoy killing. would enjoying watching them be okay? because i have to admit, i LOVE watching animals battle in the wild. it's freaking BADASS.

 

I was kind of making a joke. My favorite level of it was that we're so quick to deny nature in favor of nurture. I took a course once that said the first principle of life was that everything was a cultural construction. Granted .... thats humans and not dogs. But if he's right than there is no more human and dogs, just animals and just nurture.

Good or bad? Maybe. You judge ... I won't.

 

they're also breeding, intentionally, vicious, aggressive and ultimately stupid animals. they serve no other purpse except to kill. that's not really healthy for any breed.

 

I'm not talking about nurture, I was just saying it's different when wild dogs or even house broken dogs--really, any animal, when they fight in the wild or when they are out and scrap, it's different then if they were brought up and put in that mind set to kill and fight every other dog/animal it comes across, not because it feels threatened or it's on it's territory in the wild, no, because you just must kill it.. To me it's two different things, might not be to others, but to me it is.. So yeah, that's just me I guess...

I told this story before. I worked for a short time at the DC animal shelter when there was a rash of pit bull attacks and dogfighting. The District City Council was trying to push a ban on pit bulls and Rottweillers (which failed). Every night for almost two weeks I euthanized pit bulls almost exclusively. These were incorrigibles that could not be adopted. Most weren't even safe to be around. Some seemed to know they were about to be put down and either were resigned to it or tried to take me out first. I killed over 70 dogs. After two weeks I quit. Had nightmares about it for years.

People who take part in dog fighting should be fed to their own dogs.

It isn't just you. Its the dogs too . I hear what you're saying though. I don't agree with what I posted. It was a bit of a joke. Funny to me.

But then again, maybe there is no place in human ethical judgments for the natural fight vs flight argument at all.

Either way you only gave me one option. You said a dog that kills because it is trained to kill ... but you didn't give me another type of dog.

 

Well, take wolves for example, they don't go around jacking and killing every other wolf or dog or human they come in contact with, they attack when either they feel like they should because of what their instinct says to them or what the situation calls for, not because it's automatic...granted when you are "raised" to kill just because you "must" then it could be consider their "instinct" but their "instinct" was made by humans and was influenced...

This is exactly how some humans view all humans. No such thing as nature anymore .... in ridiculous circles. Not mine. I'm a firm believer in nature and nurture. And I love dogs. I don't like them. I would never own one, they smell and they hump my leg and they drool, but I'd shoot someone in the face if they wanted to make one fight another one.

Maybe a dog fighter is just a wolf in real life. I don't know that they'd kill everything they saw. I don't think mammals can do that.
