R.I.P. Andy, we laughed and at the same time saw a peaceful little town, Mayberry, where the Sheriff didn't even need a gun... Who would have thunk it? Things are not so simple anymore. You will be missed.
Andy is now gone and I have to thank him for the laughs that he gave me. I could not tell you how much dope I have smoked watching this show the last four decades. Humor is such a pure emotion that takes away all others for a brief moment. When you truly laugh you forget all other things. What ever happened to honest humor that was funny for everybody adults and children alike? I do not know but it seems to be dead these days. Most comedians these days use profanity and insults to get a laugh yes its kind of funny but they will never compare to the honest simple jokes with a morel to the story that Andy Griffith gave us. RIP Andy gone but never forgotten. :sunny: Two of my favorite episodes. Ernest T is my favorite Otis is a close second. Griffith and Knotts were the best comedy team of all time, and the most successful. :cheers2: There have been only three TV shows that ended their runs when they were still number one in America: The Andy Griffith Show I Love Lucy Seinfeld I think Andy's black and white episodes are the best, and every now and then, I'll stumble across one that I haven't seen before. Besides Andy, I guess my favorite character is Ernest T. Bass. We still have a few people like him in our backwoods areas. When Andy Griffith used to do stand-up comedy (before I was born) he did a lot of jokes about Mount Airy NC, the little town where he grew up. Those jokes turned into the basic idea for the fictional town of Mayberry. But as an adult, Andy found the coastal island town of Manteo to be more to his liking. There are too many conservative assholes in Mount Airy now. He loved Manteo, and the town loved him. :sunny: If you are ever around the NC Outer Banks, drop by Owens Restaurant when you are in Nags Head (across the big bridge from Manteo). The food is great, and they will show you Andy's favorite table, where he ate hundreds or thousands of times. It isn't exactly Mayberry, but it is a nice area with a lot of history and natural beauty. I'm sure Manteo's crime rate is close to zero. Go to a town like Mount Airy and look beneath the surface, and what you will find is a boatload of racism, sexism, homophobia, and religious intolerance. Not the kind of stuff you want to deal with in a comedy show. The local TV stations have kind of gone into an Andy Griffith frenzy the last few days, putting together long tribute shows full of trivia and broadcasting live from Mount Airy and Manteo. Flowers are piling up in both places.
He had a stellar career and the only flops of note were the new andy griffith show (1974) and salvage 1 (1979) which was partially based on the life of rocket engineer R.C. Truax :2thumbsup: Hotwater
