OK, a few years ago I was in this band and we would take breaks and walk around the woods behind the drummers house and one day I came across several mushrooms that looked just like AM's with the exception of the fact that the cap was yellowish. Wikipedia said that discoloring can happen after rain or if they are old mushrooms. they also show pics of both colored mushrooms. If they are the same, I might have to take a walk back there this summer :)

Take some good quality pics of em and post em up if you're really not sure, but there's a ton of info on the web about them - where they grow, how big etc.
As for dosage you should munch around 3 or 4g dried to get the feel of it, and take it from there to suit yourself :p

AMs are terrible, unreliable in potency and are full of nasty chemicals. They are just as likely to make you puke your guts out for 3 hours and give you a monster headache as they are to make you trip

Read these articles to get spun up on them:

If you're that interested in taking them, there are reliable internet sources you can order from. It would be much safer than picking one yourself, as there are a lot of mushrooms that look very similar and grow in similar areas that are extremely deadly. It wouldn't be worth the risk, imo, especially with such an unreliable trip.
