I Have read some posts on aloe vera being good for the scalp and stopping dry skin. When I look in the stores all I see is herbal essences with aloe vera and hand lotion. What would be a good product for my dreads?
Get some pure Aloe~Lilly of the Desert~ that's the brand of aloe gel I use. I found it in the organic health food section. Aloe is amazing for dreads (and so many other things). It tightens them, controls the frizzies, it's anti fungal and an antiseptic, a moisturizer. .......I had trouble finding it too, I kept looking in the pharmacy section but it is actually a food.
A food? That's weird... My mom used to keep a live potted aloe vera plant in our house, so that when someone got a burn, or cut, she would just break one of the leaves open on the plant, and apply it to the wound. [The leaves/stems of the plant have this clear, gooey substance inside of them] Food.................... ?
Could you just get a aloe leaf and throw it in the blender with a bit of water and then apply to your dreads? maybe throw in a bit of ylang ylang oil (smells good) and possibly teatree oil (heard it repels head lice) and if your really gonna get fancy, a bit of coconut milk woks wonders on dreads, ive heard.
There is a reasonably priced aloe liquid called "aloe leaf juice". I think it is for digestion or something but mix a bit with water or use it straight. (The actual product is meant to be taken as a drink and has to be kept refrigerated). I would start with a slightly diluted bit. It made my dreads a little *too" soft when I used it straight. I think it was about $5/bottle
