I've read alot that people put aloe gel in their dreads, so do you just rub it in? and do you wash it out? thank you!
wash iyt out when u wash but its perfectly fine to leave in awhile aloe goes in as a gel but quickly dries disapearring it feeds the skin and haoir and becomes a very thin film on the hair that protects and condotions it shrinks as it deies too drawing the hairs closer together..but its not so stuff that it rrstricts movement ansd water will rince it right out
If I have mad frizzies and I have to look "presentable" by Babylon's standards, then I use aloe vera kinda like a styling gel. Most of the time I slather it on after washing, let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse it out.
okay, I have some questions about this too. how much should you use and how much is too much? will it be able to wash out easily or could it get stuck in your hair?
You can't od your dreads on aloe. It rinses out, and if its left on it strenghtens your dreads. I slather it on until my dreads are saturated and dripping with it, then rinse it out or I use it like a styling gel and just smooth it on my frizzies and leave it on until the next time I shampoo. Just make sure you don't buy the stuff with witch hazel or anything else added. It should be the same grade as the juice that you can take orally. The health food stores usually have both, the small bottles with stuff added that will dry out your dreads in the beauty/cosmetic aisle and the medicinal quality aloe vera that is not only healthier for your dreads, but cheaper too.
I picked up a couple of aloe plants some one was selling at a yard sale. they cost me 50p each. Two little sisters had planted them from their mothers big aloe plant. anyone know much about taking care of them? and how do you make enough aloe gel from it without killing the plant
Hey Fellow UK Dreadhead Keep in lots of sunlight Warm(indoor) Dont over water, best not to water until soil is dry, once every 4 weeks or so, they are good at storing water for long periods of draught. Harvest 1 leaf every 2 -3 months, by breaking off a leaf, cut it down the center following the line, and squeeze out the gel Alex
I use the aloe that is in a pump bottle, like hand soap. It's for sunburns. But I love that it pumps out just like hair gel. Easier than the actual plant IMO
what about just using the plant and tearing open a spine and lathering the sap through your hair? if it's to thick you could always dilute it with water and use it that way (?)...
Yes, you can just use the juice straight from your plant, but man...I would need a huge plant to support our needs. There's no way my plants could provide enough. And please, be sure that the stuff you are using doesn't have anything added to it. Most of the aloe sold for sunburn treatment have alcohol or witch hazel or other drying agents that make it feel smoother and act as preservatives. Gotta get the pure aloe juice for the full healing goodness.
I don't know if it helps the dreading process really, but it does not hinder it. It's good for your scalp and your dreads, conditioning & strengthening without greasing it up, making your baby dreads unravel and there's no residue left after rinsing. It's all natural and is a wonderful gift from the plant world. I use it for dry skin, chapped lips, dandruff, dry dreads, burns, scrapes, bug bites,etc....it's definitely a main ingredient in all my homemade skin and hair care products.
Where did you get it from and whats it called? I can't get the real plant because I'll either neglect it or one of the animals will destroy it.
Don't get the stuff in a pump bottle unless its 100% aloe vera. Most of those ones have preservitives added that will dry out your dreads and scalp. You can find the "food grade" aloe vera juice in any health food store-that's the good stuff.
ok... this may be a moronic question because this thread has discussed it... but i'm still not quite clear on it... 1. when i go to buy aloe vera JUICE- i should get just that- the drinkable aloe vera juice you can find in health food stores? and 2. when you apply it- do you just stick your fingers in it and smooth some on- or do you dilute it in water and pour it over your head (like bronners soap?) thanks
Yep-the aloe vera juice that you can consume orally is the best. And I just goop it on and smooth it all over my locks. Sometimes I rinse, sometimes i don't.
I just purchased some of this product today from a Whole Foods in Los Angeles. You can read all of the ingredients on the web page. For newbs and new readers- please note! All Aloe Vera Gels and liquids are not the same!! Many contain chemicals and other crap. This stuff is 99.5% PURE aloe vera. The other ingredients are seaweed, citric acid, and some sorta salt. Very natural looking to me. Lily of the Desert - Aloe Vera GEL 16 oz. The only issue I have with THIS particular band is they use citric acid as a preservative. When I talked to the guy at the store, he said all of even the most natural and organic stuff will still have some stabilizers in it. With my light brown hair lemon (citrus) makes my hair turn bright blonde. I tested two dreads today to see what happens. I also intend on buying an aloe plant this Sunday from a little old lady down the street who I saw selling plants some last weekend. Can't beat good old mother nature!
So I got this aloe plant, but I don't know how to harvest the aloe. Anyone know how to get the aloe outta the leaves w/o hurting the plant!??!?!
