16 to buy an airpistol 16 to drive 18 to join military 18 to buy a firearm 18 to consent 18 to buy tobacco and smoke or chew it 18 to gamble 21 to drink alcohol Is the above correct? And do you think any of them should be changed? If so, why so?
Hear in the US state of Arizona , its 15 and 1/2 to get a learners permit , and 21 to gamble . 21 to buy/drink , it was 19 when I turned 19 in the 70s . desert rat
UK = 16 to consent to sex 16 to join the army (with parental consent/only for training) 17 to drive 18 to drink alcohol 18 to smoke cigs 18 to gamble 18 to watch/preform in pornography
I believe its 18 to buy/watch porn .(AZ USA ) I know its 18 for sex , but I dont think that stops any one from starting a few years early . desert rat
I think that at any of those ages a parent then should not be held responsible if their "child" is of supposed legal age. Does not work that way.
The sex consent thing is dependent on both (or more) parties' ages I think. In the U.S. two 16 yr olds could consent to sex with each other, for instance. I think it depends on the state too.
I think the ages for most everything should be raised, but it's not like people would obey them anyway. I feel like the age requirements are gonna go down, because children these days grow up so quick. They have sex at age 13 and 14! It's crazy, but I'm sure the requirements are going to be lowered in the future.
Only in the United States. The National Guard took my bro when he was 17 with no High School diploma (not even a GED) and a felony conviction.
It has been known to prosecute 14 year old's as adults for some heinous crimes. Certainly we can arbitrarily assign age requirements as long as they don't infringe on our ability to be brutal to each other.
The age of consent in Canada is 14 , hear is a link to a discussion on another forum , that part starts on page 3 of that thread . http://halfway.oceanfalls.org/index.php?topic=3070.0 desert rat
