homeless at 15? may i ask why? and what did you do to survive?

 

Oh yea sure you may ask! I mean, what it all boils down to is that I was just a free spirit as a child, I didnt want to have rules and someone taking care of me, and being the hardhead that I am, I had to learn how difficult life can be when your on your own, well, the hard way.
From 15 until 18 I was back and forth between being homeless and having a place to crash, but I spent most of those 3 years wandering and wondering. I didnt leave my area until just before 17 and traveled around the US, at first with 2 other friends, and then by myself, eventually joining the Rainbow Family down in Florida. I remember our original plan while still 16 was to leave Philadelphia by Greyhound bus and go somewhere in Canada, but I lost all of my identification and paperwork somewhere in Chicago, and when we got to the border in Nort Dakota, obviously we were not allowed to go through so we went back down to Fargo, ND and stayed awhile. We had a hotel for near 2 weeks and the rest we lived outside, sleeping in alleys, parks, apartment complex laundry rooms, etc. I lived in Chicago for a breif stint completely homeless, and in Florida, and in Philadelphia, those were the cities I bummed around in the longest. Miami only breifly.
So many things changed in my comprehension of this country, I saw a side to people and life that only someone who owns nothing but the clothes on their back will ever see. I actually planned on writing a short book about it but Im not sure if I will ever get around to doing it.
Memories can be fun and the web network of them compose what we know as personality, but my spiritual path has rendered me indifferent to them and though my youth taught me many lessons about myself and life as it is and can be, I dont hold onto my past.

Wow, that must have been amazing.. yet hard. You must have spent so many nights worrying about stuff.. and trying to keep warm.. i can only imagine...

do you regret it? or would you say it was an enlightening experience? did it make you feel free to just be out on your own.. with no particular destination?

Honestly that whole time of my life was as perfect as my life is now. I did worry at times, but I was so busy everyday with trying to find beer money and some herb to smoke that I didnt have time to get upset. I was forced to remain positive, if that makes any sense. But at first I was with 2 'friends' (who later dipped out and went home lol) so I had company, and we met so many people in the cities that would invite us inside, swap stories about traveling, share a case of beer and let us crash.
One time though I fell asleep in South Fargo somewhere, after partying with these Chippewa Indians (it was the girls 40th birthday) and we drank so much whiskey its obscence. I woke up the next day in Minnesota near a trailer park and had no idea how I got there. I walked back to the city in ND (which only took about 3 hours) and sat outside where we usually hung out until my friend showed up. Thats when I realized the other kid dipped out, and this friend left me in Chicago with all my money and my bag. Pretty shitty but I made a new friend in the Greyhound terminal and we spanged for a six pack and got drunk under a highway off ramp :tongue:
