Me personally would use glass as it's more hygenic & easier to clean properly

You probably did it right. Absinthe is majorly unpalatable. That's why its poured over a sugarcube into a glass.

I've had real absinthe and I find it tastes just terrible. Even done with the sugar cube. I'm so lame, but I like to mix it with a little Sprite and down it like that. Oh, and at New Years, I made an absinthe punch (the absinthe was outta a bottle though, I didn't home-brew it) and it tasted very yummy.

Oh man, we got soooooo messed up on it! On New Years, my friend had five glasses of my Absinthe punch and then, we went tobaggonning. At midnight exactly, he smashed his face off the hill. People were outside banging pots and pans, and he was unconscious. There was blood everywhere! We have these great pictures that we call The Effects of Absinthe.:p

Absinthe is definitely not for anyone with a weak constitution. I can only imagine Sprite would just make it fizzier.

    That is completely ridiculous.
Of course the absinthe that you make your self is going to be 100% disastrous unless you distill it, which is quite dangerous, AND are quite good at distilling. You can't make a true absinthe by soaking wormwood and the other herbs in vodka. That's not absinthe.

Real absinthe comes from (mostly) western Europe, Spain, France, Austria, etc, and costs roughly 55 euroes a bottle, plus shipping, which is a mother. I would never drink anything that comes out of Canada or Czech swill.

Real absinthe will not make you trip ballz, or do anything different than what a similiar high proof alcohol would do. I have a bottle of 72%, that's percent, not proof. The alcohol content is insane, and the herbs are only there for taste, not for the psycotropic effects that they are purported to have. You would seriously need rather massive quantities of the herbs in order to experience anything other than drunkeness.

I drink absinthe almost nightly. It is my favorite liquor. I don't use sugar or do the bogus (non-traditional)Czech ritual of catching it on fire.
School up, kids. Read a little about it from sources other than Erowid's drug vault and look for credible sources of information.

The times I've....known it to be manufactured were done with grain alcohol. Its the only thing I've....seen used.

It can be done with either grape or grain base. The best absinthes, and some argue the only *true* absinthes, are not made by maceration, or soaking, alone. They must be distilled. This is not to say that many unscroupulous manufacturers do so. Many will also do an oil mix. These, in my experience, aren't worth drinking. Many of the poorer-made distilations are the same.
What I'm trying to say is
    1)don't poison yourself.
2)if it tastes bad, don't drink it.
    3) For the love of Pete, don't catch it on fire.
    and finally,
4)Don't blow yourself up trying to distill the stuff. Leave it to the pros. Pay them their dues for churning out an exquisite product that, when the wise purchase is made, will blow your mind. The taste is beyond compare, and not 'horrendously bitter' in the least.

Don't even try to prepare it on your own. It's a waste of time/money.
Anyone selling Czech swill is trying to rip you off, and prey on your not knowing any better. Here is the best vendor ever...
