so i have been wanting dreads for years now and i can get them now since i work from home. i am using the kit from dreadheadhq to do my dreads. i understand how to do it and all but i just dont know how big the sections i need to make in my hair for the size of dreads i want. this is what my hair looks like right now but i dreads that are between the size of these two, i do not want them that small or that big but somewhere in between can anyone help me out with what size i need to make my sections? thank you
Hey there....you're gonna get more than sectioning advice... Howcome you decided to use the DHHQ kit?
about four years ago when i was first going to get my dreads i meet a guy at a concert that had awesome dreads and he said that he did his with the dreadheadhq kit and told me how easy it was and that after about 3-4 months they looked great and that they were locked up great, and since then, everyone that i have met that has great looking dreads has used dreadheadhq kit so i thought if all these people were happy with it and after seeing what their dreads looked like i decided to go that way
send the kit back! you dont wanty to use it u wasted 70 dollars for a 1 dollar flea comb everything else in the kit is harmfull crap if u want to backcombfine section 9n about 1/2 inch sections scrweww the dreadheasdhq instructions though dont use square sections instead make them more random just carefull not to have too much crossed hairs the dread kit is a fuckinmg scam wax is evil lock peppa is literaly dirt..flakes dont use it the acceeratoer is crap use only sea salt look up my threwad "the solution to the dreadhewadhq/knottyboy scam" and print the letter and send it back demanding your money back
Ok. Yeh I used the kit too, though since then I've learned a lot more about dreadlocks, and the only thing I'd maybe keep handy is the shampoo because it is so thorough, and I certainly wouldn't "make" my dreads with all those products if I was to start over. The products are truly unnecessary, because dreads are a natural state for uncombed hair to grow into, and some are actually harmful. Would you consider sending the kit back and trying to manage without? There are plenty of resources on this site that can help you... (Sorry for not answering the sectioning question just yet!)
LMAO @ Jason In all seriousness you don't need this kit you probably want to do about an inch square sections, but don't do it like a grid etc, otherwise you will get partings all the time Just grab and comb! They will look big when you comb them, so just hold out and don't re comb at all. They will fall apart before they knot up. Good luck!
you dont need a kit to get dreads, you need hair and patience i recently backcombed and didnt use wax, and mine are coming along fine amy backcombed and used wax, but spent quite a while removing said wax, and her hairs fine callie used wax, and her hairs fine... point is, you dont need wax, but some people will say that it helps in the beginning i personally wouldnt use it (but ive learnt from my mistakes) as for the sectioning, dont section =D looks stupid. grab bits of hair, not necessarily neat, just be careful to not cross the roots over too much, cause then you get problems (ill see if i can construct a crappy drawing on paint to demonstrate =])
they are alltemporary waxy gross dreads, they look good, at 1st, then become totaly gross caked in dirt and mold, dreadheadhq sells insta dreads that hardly ever last 4 yewars they are stiff (as u can see by that 1sat pic with the dread sticking straight out) they are sticky the wax never ever comes out wiythout extreme measures. many who used it just a few times end uop cutting theyre dreads and disecting them, even 4 years after quitting wax they find wax caked in the core of the dreads just because some idiots fell for the scam and suggested that you do too doesnt mean tyou should wax is bad dreadheadhq are fucking scammers pure and simple the best dreads happen naturaly no methods involved no backcombing no wax no products 2nds best are backcombed otr twisted and ripped then left alone to do what dreads do wax slows the dreading process glueing hair into a dreadlike mess that takes far klonger to actualy dread its the worse mistake u can make
ta daaa dyu get what i mean about not overlapping the roots? you dont have to do it like that, but if you prefer neater looking dreads (which im guessing you do) then its an option
i didnt buy the kit, i friend of mine bought it for me, but i would reconsider using it once i say the type of dreads that people have gotten without using the kit, like i said the main reason i have the kit is because the dreads that i have personally seen that i like was done with the kit, so far everyone else that i have come across that did their dreads a different way just looks nasty and just looks like crap. so i would have to see someone dreads that looks great that didnt use the kit. i want to stay away from this kind of look right here but these are like perfect for what i want
Sorry it's not for stealing your thread or anything but i just have one question: That is how big i would like my dreads to be, how can i get them in that size?
yea, its kinda like sections but without sections, just make sure that you dont over lap at the roots so each dread has its own base
if u look in my albums at my locks you will see that dreads require absolutely nothing mine were never backcombed never waxed never nothing, just allowed to happen on theyre own now dreadheasdhq insists that natural dreads are gross and ugly and they claim they take years all bullsghit lies to sell crap rarely do they take long, many freinds dreaded naturaly in weeks, to as couple months. that way the sections happen organicly, on theryre own in varios sizes to create a more natural look. however if ya really insisty on backcombing dont over do it do it not to0 tightly section more randomly (those look like closer to 1/2 inch sections, u said u may even like smaller, so section as u feel u want, the general sizxze of root area will match the dread thickness, even if the backcombed "dreads" twice that thick till it tightens. eemember backcombing is nort dreading, its backcombing, its not even a real step in the dreading process, all dreads requitre 1 thing, patience. they all xcome down to neglect everything else u do isnt needed, and can do harm. some starter methiods allow u lil contrill, and gove u a sence of accomplishment, make u look like u sorta have dreadlike thinfs for awhile buyt it always goes back to neglect being what really dreads the hair return the scam kit and get your money back u can by a couple niice tams for that and they will do much more for ya then the kit buy the tams from our crafters not those scammers
"bummed my post went trough after SE saw the post " 1 inch seems like the right amount to me, if they turn out to thin its no big deal, you can always let them merge together with others.
you only get manky dreads if you let them get manky mine are at 3 weeks old, still quite poofy, but i know that theyll shrink, get tighter, and generally look better. no wax, lock peppa, or maintenance will make them great, nor will it help speed up the process the guy with frizzy dreads.. it happens. its part of the process. there are ways of taming the frizz (pure aloe gel - not wax) but generally you have to accept it. there are ways of reducing the frizz.. crocheting is the prime example, and a few people here do that to theirs. i dont recommend it, but ive never tried it so i cant pass comment really perfect dreads dont just happen overnight. ive learnt this the hard way, twice. if i knew then what i knew now, my dreads would be nearly 4 years old!! fuck me, thats scary.. sections.. id go for half inch x half inch.. but the more grid-like you do it, the crappier itll look. itll take a while for lose hair/frizz to fill the gaps, and youll have bare scalp showing everywhere (which is especially bad if you live somewhere sunny, sunburnt scalp is not nice!)
Do you feel that you want your hair to look kinda like dreads from day 1, or could you be up for a few months of chaos? What's the most important thing to you in the long run with this?
