I was going to post on that "vote bush" thread but i think i'll just forget it.

I'm pro-life and pro-choice. i don't think making abortion illeagal is really going to do anything. Sure we can make it illeagal, but that isn't going to change the minds of all the people who think abortions are okay. one can lead a horse to water, but one cannot make it drink. forcing people to stop having abortions will almost get rid of them (what about illegal ones?) but couldn't they just elect a different president to make them legal again? its like a diet; you can stop eat eating chocolate and cakes and cookies but your just going to want them even more than before. If we forbid abortions, and they become legal again, people might just be getting more than before.

We can't stop abortions by force, only by inspiration, realization and a little tolerance.

I'm pro-choice because it's not going to be an issue I'll ever have to deal with so my opinion really doesn't count but I feel that all females should have the choice to have an abortion if ever needed.

I would never have an abortion... I believe in life at conception and everything, but I also believe that a woman should have her right to do what she will with her body. I don't think it should be used as a method of birth control, like it tends to be so often, but, if that's the choice she wants to make, I hope she thinks about it every day. :(

abortion has the same result as wearning a condom or not having sex. And you have those choices, right? Studies have been done that say a fetis' mind is not fully developed until it exits the womb. So i am pro choice

I'm pro-choice. I have no right to tell someone what they can/cannot do with their bodies, and neither does anybody else. If someone wants to get an abortion, let them. If someone doesn't want to get an abortion, let them not get one. I don't see why its really anyones fucking business what other people do with their bodies. People they'll never meet, know, have contact with in anyway.

Pro-choice. I wouldn't get an abortion for myself, but I don't believe any government should have a stance on anything that's striclty a moral issue.

    Pro-choice..

First of all, it shouldn't be an issue in the first place.
No one else should have the right to decide for everyone what they can or cannot do with their bodies, as someone else stated before. Abortion is an extremely personal decison based on one's own morals and beliefs. So how can someone say that it should be illegal just because they personally feel it is wrong? What makes your opinion any better than mine? Nothing! It is merely that: an opinion! So I don't think that the government should have the right to decide for all women whether they can or cannot have an abortion. I mean, everyone has a different opinion on when life starts, whether it be conception, viability, birth, etc... If you don't feel it is right, then don't have one. That doesn't mean that you should try to stop everyone else from having one.

And also, if they made abortion illegal, that wouldn't mean that women wouldn't be having them. They just wouldn't be having safe, legal abortions. They have been around much longer than people seem to think. Just because they weren't publicized, doesn't mean they didn't exist. Intended miscarriages and unsafe abortions were a huge problem before one could legally have one. Some people are still going to have one either way.. legal or not.. So what's wrong with letting them do it safely?

I'm pro-choice, definitely. We debate this issue a lot in my ethics paper, and I think that, while abortion should be considerd as a last resort, i.e. after adoption etc.. outlawing would make things worse:

    1) The rate of abortion would not really go down; you are kidding yourself if you think people wont get desperate just because it's illegal. In fact, I think it will remain a big busniness, with a high explotation rate. Also, the rate of mothers dying from back alleyway, coathanger abortions will vastly increase.

    2) furthermore, the rate of infantacide will go up as well. If woman who is utterly desperate to get rid of her child can't do it in the first trimester, when the foetus is hardly anything more than a lump of DNA, she will do it when it is out of her body. I think that harming a living person is far worse than harming a potential person, which is all that early pregnanacy foetus is.

Finally 3) the woman should have the right to do this, as the baby is, quite simply, a parasite (in many cases an unwanted one). Until the baby is able to depend on others for it's survival, it is utterly dependent on the mother and as such she should be able to choose whether she wants this parasite in her body, and to bring it into the world. (for, in so many cases the 'life' that the mother can offer is worse than no life at all.

However, all that said, I think that abortion should only be legal for the first part of pregnancy, for after that, even a premie child does not soley depnd on the mother - others can do that job. So abortion should be legal, but only for part of a pregnancy (unless there is a life threatning development or the baby develops some horrible, fatal defect in the womb).

I'm not against or for it really, abortions will never affect my body(or any other guy's for that matter) so I dont see what the big fucking deal is. Sure its wrong to kill an unborn child, but if thats what the woman wants let her. Nobody else should be a part of that choice except the woman.

I don't know - the ultimate decision should be the girl's, but the dad should have SOME input. Like, if he wanted to raise the child, but she didn't it might be better to have the baby. It does take two to make a bub, and I think the guy should take at least a little bit of the responsibilty, even if its just paying for half the abortion, should that be the road that's taken.

yes, but if they are young than whats the chance hell stay around for more than a little while, trying to father a kid? if the two are teenagers, and early to mid twenties, it should be only the womans choice, no matter what the guy says.

I don't think abortion is wrong for these circumstances:

    1. Rape or incest. It is terribly unfair to have to take care of a child then was forced into you. It shouldn't be your responsibility to manage another life when your own has been damaged. You have to repair yours before you worry about other beings- including those who haven't even been born.

    2. Young girls. If a girl is under 18, then its only her choice to decide whether she is going to have a baby or not-NO one elses. Not her parents, not her government, not her friends- if I don't want to have a baby, I know (and this is just my one opinion) that I won't have a baby. No law should prevent a young girl, who has her whole life ahead of her, from having a child. If they recommend to put it up for adoption, she may, but if what she really wants is to just skip the whole birth processes, and even possibly damage her growth since she is most probably still trying to develop fully herself, than I think it is her right to choose whether or not she will have a baby.

Ofcourse, she should prevent this from happening again- It can't be really fun to have to go through this- but you can tell her to stop fully, you can bitch at her to shut up and just stay celibate, but there is always that possibility that she will go and herself back into trouble again- the only person who can change her is herself.

    3. Life threatening circumstances. Your life is more important to you than something that hasn't even been born. And if that will even put your life in danger, than I believ

    Hmm....

So, are you saying that if I want to have an abortion when I am 19, 23, 31, or any age over 18 that I shouldn't be able to? A 26 year old still has a long life ahead of her also. I don't think that should be judged on age, for one thing it is discriminating against others who are not under 18. And also, age is just a number. There are plenty of 20 something year olds who I'm sure may not be ready to have and take care of a child. And I'm sure there are a few people under 18 who could if they truly wanted to. I understand what you are saying, but I have to disagree.

And also, about the life threatening circumstances.. I assume you are talking about women being able to have abortions if there is a medical threat, such as illness, etc. But then if you look at it that way, abortion is generally safer than giving live birth. There is a larger number of complications and deaths resulting from live births than abortions.
