Suppose computers and the understanding of minds and brains were more complete and we had the ability to give people the life they wanted. In my case I would have loved to have been a techno dj or a musical techno artist of some kind. Ok so suppose I could hook up to a machine where it would give my brain the exact sensations of a real world and i would not be able to differentiate between the real world and the world recreated by the machine. I would be an artist. I would be famous, I would be wealthy I would achieve every ambition I wanted to achieve, but at the end of it all it was a virtual world. For these purposes suppose there was a guy who wanted to be a formula 1 racing driver and the worlds best. Or suppose there were someone who wanted to be the greatest clothes designer on earth. Is there any moral reason why, if people were wealthy enough to pay for life support etc that they should not be given such a hedonistic opportunity to achieve all their ambitions in a virtual world?
But a virtual world does not have an actualizing real soul. It requires one to be explained for the purpose of even finding pleasure in what you are talking about. To be all those things in one;s virtual world one would still need to make that happen for actual conscience of virtuality. In my mind for hedonism to work, however, this Soul (of mine) should be able to set the synthesizing acts forward and backward in Time, time which is constantly explained for the future and the past.:2thumbsup:
do you mean that we have to explain in the virtual world how we came to be where we are? so that continuity exists? like a movie has a kind of logical progression (usually)
Not now. I felt we have to reach with our hands for a cold one. The existence of the Soul is happy less for Steffaine Dion than Stephen Harper. But we weren't being happy... (I think that's what Stephen Harper believes...) I'm just utilizing an example to make the point of Actual time passage real. But really we'd like the future to past thing stronger.
Your life is already a virtual simulation. The images in your mind are pictures of pictures. Bodies touch, minds join.
And to make Hedonism work, one must be able to focus on the new when you want to. Not; when you have to (n/t?)
if an outcome is guaranteed to happen there is no real achievement in it. therefore there can be no enjoyment of such pseudosuccess. part of enjoying being the world's best race car driver is the effort and the journey you take in your life to get there. unless all you really want is money and fame.
