my next door neighbor does..... it's as bad as the nazi flag but people don't get that..... waiting for the flame that I know is coming from some hapless hilbilly who plans to see dukes of hazzard in the near future..... :shudder:
It's them supporting their southern heritage. They're supporting what the south means to them. Some - it's a peaceful reminder or their hospitality. To some, it's representing that they were they will rise again (HAHA - ok!).
I alwas thought the Southerners were the original Libertarians (people who wanted a strict adherence to the 9th and 10th Amendments)
all of those are incredibly ignorant though...... and if you are supporting heritage that way and you aren't ignorant frankly you should probably be shot....
I don't mean the people that come from there... I mean supporting the heritage of the stars and bars, that particular thread of southern heritage I'm sorry but succeeding because you want to keep slaves and have super republicans just doesn't cotton well to me, granted there were some good ideas, but most of the people were fighting because of the slave thing, and it has come to represent inequality just as the word cool has come to mean something other than a temperature and the concept of reality has grossly changed in the past 100 years.....
But how about the federal government denying the states their right to secede from the union? Remember, history is viewed through the eyes of the victor.
if nevadans decided to sucede today they would be told love it or leave it...... sucession was never a right given to the states in the constitution, granted it was never implicitly denied but if I were a president I would view the sucessionists as an invading army, it is a hostile force on territory that the federal gov't payed for, dealed for and more or less earned, if a hostile force is trying to take some of my nations soverieign territory I will make every effort to crush it especially if it is an army silly enough to friendly fire one of it's few hopes of actually winning and then cutting him up and burying him seperatly..... poor stonewall jackson......
I think you forget there was never intended to be a so stong of a central government, the states should have been more or less independent.. And the federal government did not necessarily pay for all of the land either.. And would the people populating said land be invading armies? What of Texas? It was a seperate country before joining the union.. Surely it would have the right to secede..
