and it seems whenever i'm on the phone everyone has to talk to me.. and then i can't hear the person i'm talking to

Perhaps you could go into a bathroom and lock the door.

 

do you have a car? go sit in there and turn on the heat.

 

do you have a boiler room? this could work as well.

 

one bathroom has no lock.. and the other is right across the hall from my mothers sleeping head
