A similar question was asked of "Ask Erowid." (link below) Per their response and other available information it appears that in general phenethylamines have VERY long shelf-lives. Mescaline has been known to remain stable for literally centuries, and Dr. Shulgin has retested several of his original 2Cx batches years later w/o an apparent degradation or loss of potency being noted.

In general your enemies are LIGHT (including UV), HEAT, OXYGEN, & MOISTURE.

Depending on how long you plan on storing, your methods may vary. Simply keeping in the original container in either the refrigerator or freezer may work. For better results store in an air-tight container, which itself is inside of a zip-lock bag containing desiccant; all put in a dark freezer. To store for the ages, put the material in an vacuum sealed amber lab vile, which is itself in an air-tight container that has some desiccant in it and has been filled with co2 instead of normal air; the whole is vacuum shrink-wrapped and put in the deep-freezer. Depending on the compound it could well outlive us all.

Regarding your question about loss of potency, 2C-I appears to be a fairly stable compound; sometimes maintaining potency even when stored in solution for months. Initial purity and/or exposure to heat may have played a role... or not, hard to say.

was the first post but not the remaining responses deleted? the forum shows this as having two responses, but i see only two posts total. at any rate, i'm looking at getting some 2C-E but unfortunately do not have an accurate enough scale to measure doses with. i intended making a solution with distilled water to the potency of five milligrams per milliliter for easy oral dosing. the problem i see, obviously, is with storing this. ok, so i know you're supposed to keep it as dry as possible, but doing things the way i intend to will by necessity involve mixing all of my 2C-E into the solution, since i need to know how much is in the given volume of water in order to figure out the concentration and thus figure out the dosage based on volume rather than mass. i certainly won't be using it all by myself quickly, but i may not share it extensively. i'm undecided how generous i should be with it. at any rate, it may sit around for a little while until its all gone...the dosages are rather low and its not a very expensive drug. i was thinking of getting either 1/4 or 1/2 of a gram. obviously if its all for me this is a lot of tripping....

anyway, assuming i get it and make a solution with it, how quick should i expect it to begin degrading? you say 2C-I should stay good for a couple months...i'd expect 2C-E to be similar? i'd be storing it in the vegitable crisper (darkest part of my refridgerator) or possibly even my freezer when not using it, in a glass vial in a zipper bag. i'd also possibly add a drop of food coloring to help avoid any accidental mistaking for another substance (i may order something else as well) assuming food color shouldn't interact with the 2C-E....

any help and i'll be much obliged

I used to use the distilled water method. I dilluted it at a milligram or so per mL, but I never kept any for more than a couple months. I just ended up buying a milligram scale on ebay. There is a cheap one at www.americanweigh.com

2cesarewild, which scale did you end up going with; the American Weigh DIA-10 Digital? And if so, how has the accuray been?

PS have seen the same scale new several places on E-Bay ranging from 49.99 USD to 79.99 USD (plus shipping of course). Trying "gem scale" brings up a list of similarly priced scales (Jennings, Gem Pro, etc.).

I think it's the DIA 10 from american weigh. It's pretty dam good. Mine is sort of fucked up now though because my ex-roommate's cat knocked it off the top shelf of my closet at my old apartment. Now I have to put a ten gram weight on it before i turn it on to get it to work. I don't know why, but it works.

I'm not sure about it when it's in a solution, but most phenethylamines will last "forever" if stored relatively properly.

BTW, nice forum you guys have here. I think I'll stay a bit :)
