i've noticed that these sorts of things come up so that people can tell you all about themselves withouth you getting offended because you get to tell them all about yourself as well. though no one actually reads them, they skim a little so that they don't feel guilty when they go on their own journey of self-exposure in the hopes that someone is reading what they type.
