I think jack the stripper is pretty much right. Once you get over about 500 mcg (5-10 good to average hits) you are just about maxed out.
Most the thumb print trips Ive heard of ended up like this scenario. "I met God, I became one with him, became all and everything, I came back from the trip a new man, and I don't do drugs anymore, but I help make acid and give it out to all in need of it."
What's your source for this? If it's just an assumption I would question it in the face of having zero data on it I would love to see someone actually doing a thumbprint in front of me . . . I imagine they would be sitting down about 30 seconds after it touched their tongue, completely incoherent about 2 minutes later . . . would be wild.
Not to defend someone else, but...there are some sources that do refer to a saturation doses of LSD. I can't find the one I've seen before, but here are some others: http://www.erowid.org/archive/rhodium/chemistry/tcboe/chapter9.html https://www.dmt-nexus.com/forum/default.aspx?g=posts&m=69955 (post #52 quotes Psychedelics encyclopedia By Peter G. Stafford, Jeremy Bigwood) http://www.psychedelic-library.org/grof4.htm http://www.lycaeum.org/leda/docs/10.shtml?ID=10 It does seem logical that at some point you run out of receptors. It seems like either the extra LSD would just be wasted or it would wait around for the receptors to become available so you'd trip longer. I don't know?
Unless the LSD is stored in your body like sugars and fats are stored in fat cells, it's not going to happen. Look at it this way if you took a massive dose of LSD you don't trip for a week.
If you do take a small dose of LSD you can trip for 6 hours though but a larger dose under 1 gram can make you trip for 12 hrs. I'm not saying there is a dose that can make you trip for a week but it would not surprise me if there are such doses that could get up around the 18-24 hour mark for LSD.
true that makes sense, though i don't think it's as low as 500ug . . . . but if they have measured this somehow, then thats crazy, because it clearly doesn't fit the subjective effects of eating much more than 500ug.
From everything I have read and personal experience the length of an LSD experience is not dose related. It is about the same in initial effects for about 6-10 hours regardless of dose. You can keep bumping more to keep the trip going, but that becomes pointless after a while as the only effect still present is being awake and spaced out and if that is what you want to do, switch to meth. Now the "recuperation period" is longer from higher doses, but that is often also dependant upon the content of the trip. Some trips take a little longer to recuperate from than others.
I've definitely found 3+ hits to be far longer than 1-2 hits on numerous occasion, perhaps it effects individuals differently
I am of the understanding that saturation of serotonin receptors occurs at around 500-600ug, but that LSD has smaller effects, which become increasingly more significant at higher doses, on other parts of the brain (dopamine, dendratic spines, certain other transmitters) which would account for the increasing affects beyond this apparent 'saturation point'. From the famous thumbprint thread on shroomery:
