Who is your favorite drummer/percussionist? I'd have to say Ginger Baker. Most people don't really know I play drums, it seems. I've always been more noted for my guitar playing. I just managed to learn while playing out on the floor while working for a music shop...
Hard to pick just one; but I can narrow it down to my three favorites, each for different reasons… Keith Moon because he’s psychotic and “technique” kind of goes out the window with him (yet kind of doesn’t, lol), Clyde Stubblefield because funk just can’t be imitated, and Ringo because he plays exactly what the song needs.
I can't remember his name, but one of the Marcallis brothers (Ellis' son) is so damn awesome on drums... jazz.
Don't know if I have a single favorite, but here are some of them... Nick Mason (Pink Floyd), Phil Collins (Genesis), Pierre Moerlen (Gong), Daniel Denis (Univers Zero), Jaki Liebezeit (Can), Jack DeJohnette, Billy Higgins, Barry Altschul, Billy Martin, Fredy Studer, Paul Lytton, Lê Quan Ninh...
In my mind, Steve Gadd embodies all three. Not to mention that the man has a pocket you can drive transfer trucks through. But, Orsino2, this is like asking you who your favorite guitarist is.
my favourite is got to be Mitch Mitchell from hendrix experience he like never keeps the same rhythm going always improvises, i guess hes kinda underated cos of hendrix
Yeah... I love Steve Gadd's drumming... with Clapton... and Billy Preston... Nathan East... Clapton has one of the best bands.
rodney Holmes Steve Kimock: I couldn't begin to do Rodney justice talking about him. We go back so far. You may have attended that concert at the old Keystone Corner in San Francisco with Max Roach and Elvin Jones. Did you go to that one? Interviewer/Pure Music: I wasn't at that show, no. SK: You didn't go to that? Okay. Well, I was as far away from the stage as I am from you, which is about three feet. That was the last time I heard drums that good. And I told that to Rodney, too.
