My fav things are a tent....cos with out it you get wet....i love my sleeping bag....its lovely and downy so it shrinks and is soooo warm....its been to the arctic with me :D
Always take loads of socks cos comfy feet is important. Inflatable mats are comfier than foam ones. I dunno i tavel very light usually cos i do lots of walking. So minium stuff is great, clothes, tent, sleepingbag, carry mat and food is mostly my stuff :D

i like the idea of having no obligations just being out in the woods in the middle of all sorts of woods and whatnot.

If you're carrying it (backpacking) bring as little as possible!

If not, well, aside from the obvious tent, sleeping bag, cookstove (optional), and the like, you might want a bear canister. I figure there's bears in BC, right? Though maybe it can go in your car, I don't know, never camped in bear country. Really, if you're driving there, you're not limited by much in what you can bring: books, music, fishing equipment, camp chairs, whatever. Me, I like to dispense with all the extras and try to take the main necessities. Though I am partial to a little bit of music in the evenings, so a walkman is nice. A notepad is good too, for journaling, poetry, drawing, whatever. I always feel so inspired in nature this is a necessity for me. A camera is also a good idea, maybe some binoculars for viewing wildlife.

Camping can be very simple, or very luxuriant, depending on your tastes and intentions/reasons for camping, and having a car makes it that much easier.

I really don't know! They freeze sometimes when I camp out in cold weather and they just seem to fray and break!
My gaiter straps have never broken! How do you break them?!

walking generally they just wear straight through. The boots i use are B2's so they are stiffer so cause more wear on the strap than usual im guessing.

What distances do you generally walk?
I'm doing the ten tors expedition (45 miles) so at the moment I'm doing around 30 miles in a day, although we end up doing some night walking. We usually walk at around 2.2-2.5 mph which isn't bad considering the terrain!

Ive never really done walking for length. The longest ive walked was in Spitsbergen about 30km in a day, which was a full pack up 1000m including a glacier and a 250m river crossing. Fastest ive walked was for my ML training with 3 other 30 year olds, we had full packs and were going 7kph for the whole day....was absolutely killer but dead fun hehehe. Whats the ten tors walk? Where you go walking mostly? Where you from?

little trick ive learned about a pillow. To save weight, stuff your sleeping bag's stuff sack with all the clothes you have. Then, if you brought a coat, wrap the bag in there. its a whole lot more comfortable than you think. An ounce in the morning is a pound at night.

I'm from Devon and I do most of my walking on Dartmoor. The ten tors is an expedition over Dartmoor that takes place in May.
There are 35, 45 and 55 mile routes. You get given a list of ten different tors you have to go to depending on how many miles your walking.
You have to go to the top of each tor (in the correct order) and get your card stamped. When you have completed all 10 you go back to the finish.
It's a difficult trek because of navigation and terrain. I've had a few tranning walks but I'm have trouble with my feet... blisters and such!
    Where do you walk mostly?

Im up in manchester, so we have the pennines, yorkshire, north wales and the lakes all in close proximity. My feet are my most important thing when walking, so i have sorbathane insoles (sooo comfortable) i use seal skin socks so my feet stay dry and the marino wool in side them don't rub to form blisters and just in case i do start to get a hot spot i carry compeed patches when work a treat.

I go camping a lot in the summer, and i always have to bring my guitar every were i go. In case you dont have a cd player or radio up there, your own music is awsome and everyone enjoys it. I also love to bring a camera.... some of the places you are going are probably going to be beautiful. and if you arent a barefooter... bring at least two pairs of shoes incase one gets really wet or like are ruined.
    PEACE~

I would go camping on the weekends alot, not much anymore. It would only be 2 night camping. I'd bring lots of bar shaped food, nuts, a sleeping bag and my travel guitar. Me and my friend and his girlfriend would go out and have a blast, we packed very light.
