Why do you believe?

This is for the people that believe that the Bible is true and that Jesus is the savior. I've heard plenty of arguements about why people don't believe, but I want to know why people believe that Jesus is the son of God. Did you have a personal life altering experience? Was it because you were raised in the church and keep following that path? Were you brainwashed and now can't believe in anything else? What is your reason for believing?

 

becasue nothing else has ever come close to satisfying my soul,in times of trouble iv never felt such peace.christianity cant be based purely on reading the bible,because of you jsut red it they are just words,you ahveto apply it to your life,and its not jsut reading the bible that is gona stregthen your faith,it is through knowing god,spending time in his presence and getting a deeper and PERSONAL revelation of who jesus really is to you,no book could ever tell of the greatness of jesus onlt a heart can discover through alowing him in

 

I'm a reborn christian. I turned Christian about a month ago...and now I'm Preaching!

It took a saint to get me. I used to be a new ager.

Anyways, I believe in the Bible, because in my eyes, it's gots lots of proof.
For instance, almost all of the prophecies have come true (except the last few, which will be fulfilled in the near future, I'm tallking about tribulation, Judgment, and the Beast- aka antichrist).
It talked abnout things like, for instance, Israel becoming a nation. It's overly obvious to me that satan exists.

And about Jesus- The lady who taught me about Christianity has seen supernatural things happen, when she was still a mess (and believe me, before she was saved she was),for instance, she was angry at God and said: " GOD! IF YOU'RE REAL! THAN SHOW YOURSELF!!!!"
she recalls the dream that opened her heart:

She saw her 4 year old (or was it 5?) hanging on a cross, crying, with teary eyes, "Mommy!! Help me!*sniff* Please!!!! " over and over.
The lady goes " Kayla! God! How could you be so cruel?! Why are you doing this?!"
and than the cross flipped-
there was Jesus. The lord said:" For I have loved you so much, I gave MY son, who, unlike your daughter, was SINNLESS!! His precious blood spilled in order to pay for YOUR daughter's Sins! "
Than he showed her the many times he saved her life-real occasions.

That's how she got saved, and I believed her that that was exactly what happened, for as hard core as she was(is), she'd surely obey God, and the Bible condemnes lying.
So that was most likely not a lie.

This and many other factors contributed to my conversion from New Age (hard core man!) to Christian.

For me, the real eye opener came after experiencing true salvation. I was raised with belief in Christ and each and every private religious school and church I had attended thought that they had truth. The way they made Jesus out to be seemed such a foreign concept to me. Something that existed on another plane or realm that I could never touch. It was not until I experienced baptism in his name and the baptism of the holy spirit that I began to understand. Shortly after that, I began to experience his healing power. Many people claim that those of faith have blind belief. I am not the type of person who chases rainbows looking for pots of gold or wishes on stars, however, I have had my proof and it has changed my entire being.

 

I've said it before and I'll say it again.
All religion is the worse man-made invention created by man.

Think for youself and don't rely on the bible or any religion
to think for you. Hope you all come to your senses soon.

Many. Just last night I had another. It was beautiful.

I have not regularly gone to church at any point in my life. Originally my faith started when I reached a breaking point in my life and I cried for help. God scooped me up and showed me some stuff. After that, I started trying to understand God. I've had ups and downs during my learning process, but definitely see great results- I am much more comfortable living with God now than I was in the begining when I had many misconceptions about God (I thought of God like a human at first, but gradually grew to know God as a beautiful wise caring patient being).

My sins are washed away and I see clearly. If I stumble, God picks me up and washes me again.

Reason for believing? The many things that happen in my life that show the coordinated intent of a higher being. Things that just couldn't be explained logically without intent. Then there is the direct experience of God's loving encouragement to pursue the path that I am on. I love God.

 

Nope, they're not. And if you've got a problem with christians--STAY OUT OF THE FRICKIN' FOURM!!!!

I just think that the Holy Spirit is too ignored... HE'S the one who does all the work...

I'm interested in going to a Penticostle (sp?) Church. Because I heard that they specialize in all the Supernatural stuff!

Who needs magic if you've got God?

 

its not religion,its a relationship woth god!
its not something in which we can teac ourselves through the bible.
its what god teaches us,so u really havnt got a clue!
and actually no my parents are not christian,my dad is a drunken pot smoking bum!

you say pentecostal 'specialise' in supernatural.
but really its just baout them being obediant to the move of god's spirit!
they donty need to conjour up supernatural,but if god sees something needing to happen inside somebody.like the sick being healed then supernatual will happen!-be careful tho,dont base your faith of god becasue of supernatural things,the bible tells us there will be many faulse prophets and people will do signs and wonders,but it is fools gold!base your faith on KNOWING god.as i said its a new beging for you and il be praying for you all the way!

 

I agree that the work of Christ's spirit is too ignored in mainstream religion.

If you want Holy Ghost power, then I highly recommend it! However, be very careful when choosing a Pentecostal church hun. Pentecostal churches can possess false prophecy as well. I recommend a United Pentecostal church. Try this link: http://wec.upci.org/churches/ Type in your state and it will show you a list of United Pentecostal churches in and around your area.

I do not think she meant the supernatural signs and wonders such as those which will be performed by the False Prophet. I think she meant speaking in tongues (evidence of the holy spirit), and miraculous healing. Those are two things I am quite use to at my own church, both by witnessing them and personal experience.

 

i believe in God because unlike buddhism the bible teaches love to be exact pure love that hates sin and is infinite and that is God, but buddhism teaches non-attachment, yeah compassion but non attachment, no love !!

even if there was no heaven i couldnt live without love

 

I watched I (heart) Huckabees last night. In it, people were going through existential development (enlightenment). The way 2 of the characters were enlightened was by confronting and embracing the dark side- that nothing matters, which made them realise everything mattered. You can see the truth through the lies, which is the important thing.

 

I was raised in the church.... but i began to ask questions such as "How do we know the Bible is true." Through my father and my own research I have concluded that the Bible is true because it was inspired by God.
