I don't think they'll do it. They always try to bring it up. I, myself, was born in Alaska and I sure as hell am not going to let them do it without making calls and writing letters...

egh... another pile of shit has hit the fan. On top of that, Karl Rove is with Neil Cavuto on Fox News talking about how he's the best strategist of the last century...

This is kind of funny considering that there is only enough oil in Alaska to power the U.S. for 275 days.

If that; I've heard as little as 6 months, myself. But of course, that will be spread over a few years, since setting up infrastructure and getting to peak production takes time. Might help prices, but it sure as hell is going to fuck up ANWR. Just another depressing bit of news, there seems to be more of that kind lately. :(

Well, yes, that's true. It's not like Alaska will become our only source of oil, but with it containing only 5.2 billion barrels or so, it's not like it will make that big of a difference... not big enough to destroy the environment, that's for sure.

I thought the alaskans asked if they could be permited to drill and the dicision was , the go a head is their if you wish to drill . Just a permit not 'america' wishing to drill the shit out of the place.

I'm not sure, man. I heard it had something to do with the recent price of Oil. I heard only that the Senate was about to vote on it.
    I still think it sucks.

Nah, it's not going to impact the oil market at all... That's why they didn't do it a century ago. It's an emergancies only kind of thing... being pissed away just like every little thing G.W. Bush & Co. get their hands on.

This country is going to shit..i used to be patriotic, now i dont really give a shit. The people are not in control anymore, just big corporations with lots of cash and stupid ass presidents that are money hungry(*cough*Bush*cough*). If it were up to me, Bush would have been dead 2 years ago.

I don't support Bush but I'm just wondering what you would have done if you were pres. Think about it, would you want to be the guy who is the white house when there is an oil crisis in America, I don't think so.

There is going to be an oil crisis no matter what. Get used to the idea. Alaskan oil won't help us now.

We had a fair few reports on the news/current affairs programs about that decision...well on the news programs that pay attention to anything outside of the kids rioting at parties on the weekend!!

It was a bit depressing that they would bother to drill for oil in an area that I understand to be so untouched and that it would be done for so little benefit.....seemed a shame...bit like what is turning out to be the water wars here...
watch as oil and water don't mix..how ironic!!
    :(
