so what's the skinny on the weed in dam? who grow's it? is it a gov. deal farmer type grower's? where they at an stuff like that. how much can they grow legally? can resident's grow weed too? just seeing how many shop's there was an how much they sell 24/7 /365 means there's some bigg grow rooms somewhere fill us in
I'm curiuos too. Coffeeshop ''Homegrown Fantasy'' sells very small amounts of weed grown by private growers who live in the Netherlands and therefore supply some of the best stuff available. I would imagine that most of it comes from Morroco (Africa) I would like to know where the hash is made and produced though.?
a lot of the hash is made in holland isn't it. well the ice hash anyway. those wiley dutchees pioneered the icolater. well im not sure about the govt grow shops, but im sure a small amount of that is going on. a few of the coffeeshops in leiden grow their own weed up on the top floor above the shop. also if you walk down the street parallel to damrak you'll see the bulldog's grow house. its pretty freaky lookin, theres at least 100 cameras on it. its like maximum security or something! but like everywhere else im sure alot of the weed is grown elsewhere. plus last time i was in holland it said in the cannabis college that you were permitted to grow 3 plants. im sure you could grow a hell of a lot more though!
A member of the public is allowed to grow 5 plants so you would need 1000's of private growers to supply the coffeeshops, from what I know the big cultivation of weed is grown illegaly but the Mayor of Maastrict is trying to change that imported hash is just that imported from whatever country its produced in be it Morocco, Afghanistan, Africa etc etc, then things like skuff and Iso's are all produced in Holland (I think Switzerland also supplys a lot to the Netherlands!) Have a look here - http://www.hempcity.nl/press/dutchgrowrooms/index.html these show growrooms from very small to very big! Jon
Hang on.! Bulldog grow houses, I've never seen that. Where do you mean, to the left of Damrak, ie, Warmoestraat or to the right Nieuwendijk shopping street. Is it all hidden or open for view, this is completely new to me. Apart from that I've seen one stupidly big greenhouse in Switzerland that supplies Dutch coffee shops and I'm sure many Dutch people grow stacks themselves, I would.
i think it has to be grown domestically somewhere, in greenhouses, becuase on the menu's it always makes the distinction between domestic and foreign. The foreign stuff is usually Thai, lambs bread, mexican or colombian. its brown and has that 'i came over in a vacuum packed container shoved up someones ass' look to it. Very compact and pressed together.
Yup.. it is illegal for anyone to own more than 5 (or was it 3?) canabis plants.. so everyone who has more than that is illegal. That's the weird thing about this whole weed-policy.. it's legal to sell it (in coffeeshops), but illegal to produce it (for sales).. and indeed, there are some politicians (like the mayor of Maastricht) who are speaking up for legal producing, because that way the government can control everything.. for example, they can make sure that the THC amount stays below 'normal' levels (it's gone skyhigh lately, which isn't always a good thing, apperantly).
Yeh, Velvet The media are going crazy here in the UK about all the marijuana stuff at the moment, no idea how it's affecting the Netherlands. Did hear though, that even the Dutch are trying to do something about the really potent skunk strains which is a worry.
Yeah.. in my opinion the THC levels don't need to be pushed higher and higher .. just normal levels (which are still pretty high in Dutch weed I think, compared to non-Dutch stuff). I vaguely heard sth about the UK situation.. I'm not really into the latest news anymore since I'm working on the house a lot. Care to fill me in?
It's all to do with politics. Us Brits downgraded the stuff from ''class B'' to ''class C'' and it was a non-arrestable offence if you were caught with some. In light of what the New Zealand reasearch on marijuana has published, the opposing government in the UK want to reclassify it back to ''class B''. From what I can see this is only a futile attempt to win votes and some people are in favour of this. It's just one of those mass hysteria moments that I'm sure will blow over and nothing will change, fingers crossed. Bloody politics and stuffy old men calling the shots. I'm pretty sure things will stay as they are, it's just all the media going crazy about it at present. Even more reason for me to move to Amsterdam.
i cant remember which street exactly the grow shop is on. you know like if your standing in dam square facing cs. and you turn left and theres a big shopping mall. and an AH. you go up that street, and its like 3/4 of the way up. it has bulldog curtains and stickers all over it. it looks really dodgy. we heard it was a grow shop, but im not a 100%. and no it is most definatley not open for the public. i hate those god damn bulldog assholes!
Blimey, I don't know how many times I've been up and down that street your on about, I know the the one you mean. I've never seen it though, will have to look out for it, for all it's worth. Never go to the Bulldogs and would never buy any weed from them either, but it's all intriguing stuff, thanks Jennifericious......
no probs mate. i have a huge loathing for the bulldog too. the point of coffeeshops is to create a welcome peaceful loving atmosphere where one can chill out and get happy and high. and the bulldog is just not about that. its all about money and business and bad vibes! i hate it.
Yeh, your quite right, the Bulldogs suck. I've been to them all so I can say I've done it and all that. One of them, half way up Oz Voorburgwal is really crap, I went to the loo and there was an old woman sitting there and wouldn't let me in until I paid 50cents, which was crap especially if people wanted to hang out there for a while drinking. Although they were scrupulously clean. Needless to say we swiveled on our heal out of there. The Grasshopper is another tourist trap I avoid too.
Yes, I know what you mean, loads of places in the Dam have similar paying toilet schemes. The only thing is on several occasions I saw a table set up with food laid out on it for the customers, like crisps, nibbles, crackers, etc. It was weird to see food like this so close to the toilet doors, really weird.
yeah, a newspaper maybe, that would make sense. but about pay toilets, i just love the fact that if you gotta go, you can wander in anywhere, and for a nominal fee, use the bathroom. over here you'd either get thrown out or you have to buy something. if i lived near the rld i would pimp out my toilet for 50 cents. might even put out a snack tray.
