I have come across the most beautiful pictures of dreads in tattoo savage magazine. They look like they are braided though? Here is a link: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v625/andreafamilypics/hair.jpg How would one do this? Just braid and let 'em go?
Which one of the 3 women are you talking about? the girl in the middle i sdont think is braided. but the top right hand blonde girl looks like she has little plats. Now this is an ok way of starting dreads however it means they grow out with dreads at the top and plats at the bottom. So you would at some point want to (i guess) unravvel the platts and try and dread them.
i don't think this method works, very well. i've seen people who start with braids and it just looks lame. they actually ARE braids for the longest time and that's just what they look like. get them backcombed and go about it like that, i say.
I don't think that's the best thing to do. I braided the first few cm's of my hair then dreaded it to get it close to the scalp. It worked well.
ok yall, I did this. I left my whole head braided for about 5 months!. this was a lot of work but the braids grew out into dreads. i eventually undid the braided part up until it was dread and this was extremely difficult because it was braided so long. I then dreaded this hair - this was a bad idea. all the hair i dreaded myself has pretty much fallen out cuz it was bleached and extremely damaged and i used the w word- wax. thank god though- i dont have any artificial dread comin out of my head now, only the new healthy knotted hair that i dont do a damn thing to. i only braid dreads together ocasionally because theyre pretty thin in some parts. now my dreads look more natural and healthy. Letting your dreads grow from braids is ok, but dont dread the hair - let it do it on its own! Im still a bit insecure about my locks. I feel more confident as they grow longer, though.
