Aww Peter Kaye is da man :p

Phoenix Nights star Peter Kay has been voted the UK's favourite comedian.

The Bolton funnyman topped the list ahead of Billy Connolly, Ricky Gervais and Graham Norton.

The survey of 10,000 people - believed to be the biggest comedy poll ever - was carried out by Jongleurs Comedy Clubs to mark their 21st anniversary.

Connolly was second, followed by rubber-faced comic Lee Evans and Ricky Gervais.

Eddie Izzard, Jack Dee, Roy Chubby Brown, Graham Norton, Jo Brand and Jimmy Carr made up the top 10.

I'm not surprised... I've seen his stand-up stuff on tv and he is very good at connecting with the sheer ordinaryness of life... I found myself laughing in recognition at so much stuff... so I found it funny and warmly nostalgic at the same time...

What he lack is the sense of danger that many of those other comedians bring... you can never be entirely sure where the likes of Billy Connolly and Eddie Izzard and Bill Bailey will take you... a universe that you recognise but is also twisted by their own skewed vision... I've found the best comedians have done this ever since I first came across Spike Milligan and Monty Python...

    Fly...

Why did peter kaye win? he says some amusing things, but mainly just repeats "garlic bread" and does impressions of his mum. Billy Connolly has been around for decades and has been consistently funny. If Kaye is still touring and on tv in 2025, then they might have a point. But he'll disapeer into the wilderness in a couple of years.

Peter Kay is amazing..What he says is really only funny cos he is saying it....A sign of a great comedian....Me and my friends have been running around for months now shouting " ITS SPITTING!! ITS SPITTING" (see top of the tower) and if you saw his comic relief "road to Amarillo" well that just seals it....the man is a genius....

he's a friend of my friend..... (I hate saying that, everyone wants to be a frind of a friend of a star.... I don't give a shit really... me mate used to say "you wanna go watch peter kay, he's gonna be big" I used to think yeah, and how many times have I heard that about some local act/band. only got to see him once at a local benifit do and he got seriously heckled off stage - was out of order really, glad he's done well....)
but he used to work in bolton's last proper cinema (before the multiplex's out of town) as an usher. When it was to close his comedy was just taking off in a big way and he said "when the cinema shuts my comedy will go down hill - its where I get all my material from!"
he must have found another source.......
you know the fire safety officer character in "that peter kay thing"? - keith lard?
It was based on a real character keith laird, who successfully sued peter kay for 10 grand for ripping off his character. I used to be a teach at the college in bolton, got volunteered to be a fire warden in my absence at a meeting (woa thanks) and had to go on a 1 day fire safety training day and got there only to find it was with the real keith laird! and peter kay's interpretation of these folk is funny, but the real life thing is even more bizarre. I was made up.
"come on, you all know it now, you've all seen peter kay ...... fire doesn't kill..... what kills? (together now) IGNORANCE KILLS"
    LOL!
My technician at the college used to go to st. gregs (the club used in pheonix nights) and in pheonix nights its posh and has a very select crowd compared to the real thing - its ruff as fuck in reality (last time I parked on the car park there, evening time, there were kids outside chucking bottles at the wall waiting for their parents to finish drinking and take them home)
