To all you folks in North Carolina, Raleigh is having it's anual Spring-time Rennaissance Fair... just to let you know.... and I need some dress ideas... something I can make quickly and last minute... maybe using an old dress??? Anyway, the Fair is Easter weekend so I gotta get to work!!!
Here's some ideas for you. Go to Wal-Mart and look up the Patterns and you will find a lot of quick and easy patterns, some only take 2 hours to make. Find a dress pattern that looks renish, (a princess cut dress works well for this) and get sewing You can add your touch in details, such as a brocade ribbon edging the neck and sleaves. If you can't make a dress you can find a dress at a thrift shop that looks renish and then go at it. An old prom dress can be great for this. But if you are realy pressed for time you can find a colorful broomtail skirt, peasent top, vest and lots of jangly jewelry. Add to that a belt, beltpouch, scarves, ribbons and a tambourine and you've got a great gypsy costume I hope this helps. You must post a pic of your dress when you finsh it. Angel
i am just down the road maybe we can meet up!!! joannes actually has decent patterns for dresses sometimes....................
Thats what I'd Got a whol bunch of broomtail skirts and nifty jangly belt a pesent top and HUGE gold hoop errings and a scarf for my hair. Looked great! Remember GOLD is your friend for gypseyness
layer two broomstick skirts (it helps to "unstick" them....you can twist them back any time) and tuck one corner up to show off your "underskirt. This trick got me through years on Renfaire circuit. I bought three decent shirts and two bodices, both reversable. Sine a faire weekend is at most three days, it worked. Since you are a patron and not working, you can get tights and a "pirate" shirt (poets' shirt from the thrift store) and a honking obnoxious sash for a belt. heh. I still do that when sorting laundry. I have enough work clothes for two weeks w/o laundry.
I would go to a fabric store and maybe buy a pattern for a peasant style outfit. Those outfits are the easiest to make. The fabric would be fairly cheap too. You could use muslin for most of the costume. If you don't think you can make something that fast I think drumminmama & Sunny's ideas would look great! When I go to the Ren Faire around here I just wear patchwork hippie dresses I know they aren't historically acurate but they are handmade.
!!! Wow, so many Raliegh people! I went to the fair, as I did last year. My boyfriend was in the fair, in the preforming group. He played Anteros, the faery that gave away the love potion flowers that started the whole mess. He wore cream colored robes, a little wreath thing on his head, looks boyish and has shaggy brown/blonde hair. He's sixteen. It was so much fun....I'm going to be in it next year! Sorry about the plug on Nick, but I'm very proud of him. ^_^
