Can you guys help me with some old school hip-hop, you know, the positive vibes...not the new school poplular junk....I'm talkin early tribe called quest, de la soul, public enemy, run dmc, grand master flash, krs one and the roots any other stuff?.....any others i am missing? i'm talkin old school!!!
KRS-one, tupac, biggie smalls, ice cube,Grand Master Flash, Afrika Bambaataa, Kurtis Blow, the Sugarhill Gang, Pete DJ Jones , gang starr, fatback, beastie boys, DJ Hollywood, Big Daddy Kane,Eric B. & Rakimm, M.C. Lyte, the fat boys, LL cool J, slick rick, Dr Dre, snoop dogg, Cypress Hill, kool g rap & dj polo, masta ace, spoonie gee, rob base & dj ez rock, biz markie, brand nubian, too short, NWA, Eazy E, Bone Thugz N. Harmony, De lench mob, kid frost, gotta check my collection for more
don't forget black moon, leaders of the new school, redman, busta rhymes, e-40, schoolly d, wu-tang clan (and their solo stuff), jedi mind tricks, gang starr, jeru the damaja, onyx, ice-t, tuff crew, beatnuts, westside connection, and naughty by nature. yeah, most of that is more 90's stuff, but i guess you could consider that "old school" these days. rap is no longer something that gets on the charts because it's unique and popular at the same time, it's on the charts because it's part of the mainstream now.
the ones in bold, those are the ones I like a lot. surprised de la soul, tribe or public enemy weren't mentioned. but thanks a lot guys, I can't wait to check some of this stuff out!
Ultramagnetic MCs! They came out in like eighty-six, they were the first to use tons of classic samples, and they don't even use curse words (not that there's anything wrong with them, just they didn't need to). Also, all of Kool Keith's solo work is bomb, esp. Doctor Octagon and Diesel Truckers, which is his latest, far as I know.
Nine, Redman, BIG's first cd (Ready to Die) Really, check out Nine, try the song forever blunted or what cha want and for fresh new skool try Eyedea. also ICP, not positive vibes always but they have been rapin before the 90's
