i read a trip report on erowid about turning morphine sulfate into morphine HCL, has anyone tried this and had success. if so any helpfull hints would be apreciated. so far i have the sodium hydroxide and Ph strips. oh and does this make smoking it possible and worth the effort, or is snorting the HCL better then the regular sulfate, because i dont get alot of absorbtion with the regular sulfate. end up w/ mostly morphine filler buggers.
Why bother to convert to HCL? It seems to me that morphine base would be best to smoke. Look-up the vaporization or boiling temps.
If all you're worried about is snorting it more easily, just do a simple water extraction of a bunch of the pills, evaporate the filtered water and dry. You will still have a blend of morphine and pill gunk, but at a much better ratio than before. Take care when figuring out the dose, as there is really no way to know just what that ratio is. Just start small. There is really no reason to convert the H2SO4 salt to HCL, unless it does change the bp enough to make smoking it less wasteful. I should think that they would both be somewhat smokable, but smoking any opiate tends to be a rather wasteful practice. Much of the chemical is destroyed. Just converting it to the free amine base is not such a good idea unless you do it right away, as morphine base oxidizes and becomes inactive rather quickly if left to it's own devices. Although obtaining the free amine would make smoking easier as Midnight stated.
