    hello everyone..
recently my dad found out he has a clogged artery and has to have some kind of surgery..they injected radioactive stuff in him just to find out or whatever..
i already KNEW way before he had pains. just had that feelin you know?

but anyway, the docs told him not to eat cow or pig anymore, ive told him for 2 years but he wouldnt listen to me! but now everything has changed! iam still in shock, he's gone vegan! he even tried the soy milk i get and LIKES it! but still drinks regular milk, just went to 1%... iam so happy for him, happy for this family because hey both dont know how to eat right, getting fatter and fatter, my mom starves herself just to lose weight. but now it should get better!

But anyway i was wondering if you guys got any recipe/ideas for this former meat maniac..comments welcome

    Hey!
And it's vegetarian, not vegan! ;)
    vegans don't drink milk.

There are so many things one could eat. You could try a veggie-burger! ;)
Or a meat substitute. The only real difference in taste is that the flavores not so strong, and it's not greasy...:p

Arteries actually become clogged by eating products that contain trans fats. They are called "hydrogenated oils". Almost every packaged food carries them. Unless someone is eating massive amounts of meat (especially fried foods in oils that possess the same trans fats), then their arteries would not become clogged. It seems to me that this doctor is still focused on the, "low fat foods equal better cholesterol", myth that has proven time and time again within the medical community to be non-effective.

Recent research is indicating that this is true. The "French paradox" is probably enough evidence that most of us need: the French eat way more saturated fat than us but they have much less heart disease -- probably because they eat way more fruit and veg than we do.

The latest info is suggesting that the cause of clogged arteries is not the presence of dietary fats, but the absence of dietary anti-oxidants and "good" oils, and a few other factors, such as elevated homocysteine levels, etc

High glycaemic carbohydrates have also been linked to arteriosclerosis

So sorry for your Dad. I have the same thing. It IS painful. Sometimes it's your heredity. 10% of ALL people of Northern European descent have abnormal blood clotting factors. I have to take coumadin to 'thin my blood' - it does not matter what I eat. I mean in that it will not change that fact that I will have to take that drug because my blood clots regardless. Is it in his legs / arms or (hopefully not) his heart?

clogged artaries come from a variety of different things including trans fats, but also oncluding other things (genetics can have a play here). more and more people hear doctors telling them to limit or cut meat products from their diets and act amazed because they weren't listening to the world around them or their bodies.
