Anyone ever feel like many of the best musicians you know of are some of the least known. I mean, yes, there's the whole jam band and indie thing, but, why is it that an entrie genre seems to be monopolized... then people move on to the next monopoly... weird... but I suppose that's just how it goes.

they dont get known cuz its all about advertising and mtv needs commercial pop shit stuff that sells good but who the hell listens to that???

i love bands that come out of your basement and nobody knows, there are so many talentedmusicians just in your neighbourhood!!!

Yeah... that's how I learned of keller williams... he's bigger now, but nothing like Dave Matthews or anything (another who started out local, here in Virginia). Then again, there are some that are in the middle as far as popularity or basically work as songwriters more than musicians. I started listening to Jack Johnson back when nobody really knew of him, after hearing about him from an independent folk-rock band's site. It seems like Jack Johnson is getting a boost in popularity now... his new album, In Between Dreams, is at #3 on the charts today, I believe. It makes you feel kind of weird when this happens because you have to wonder if he'll turn into a gigantic fad-ish thing. The music is easy to listen to, which also makes it sell. It's also simple... but it's good, meaning less is more.

Some of the best musicians I know don't even have cd's or are in bands. They're my friends. Amazing musicians who can pick up any instrument and just blow your mind. Kids who write songs that are so creative and unique. It makes me mad in a way. You turn on the radio or TV and it's like why is this talentless flavor of the month getting rich while these folks I know can't even get a gig or a record deal.

I had the opportunity myself. I had some people from Nashville contact me after finding out about me and I couldn't make it there because of my parents schedules... :p Then some guy from an indie radio station recently contacted me asking if he could give my stuff airplay and all of this... ugh... damn age thing...
