Have you ever wondered whether on not a person who is blind knows what human looks like? I know the apparent and obvious response is no, but I find that the situation to be unimaginable. I cannot conceive og how diffucult it must be to have no pints of reference. Although this has nothing to do with marijuana, I couldn't stopped thinking of this when I was really stoned. What do you think?
I don't know any blind people, but I would assume that have a SENSE of what a human looks like, based on knowing the shape, feel and experience of their own body, as well as the shape and feel of other people. It won't be a visual "image" but the obviously must have some idea.
I think it would be a hard concept to grasp. I mean you could try to explain it like: red is hot, blue is cool, etc, but that doesn't really tell anything, does it?
Do blind people think in words or images? and how would they think in images from the start, strange concept..........
Well, they probably don't think in images like you think of visual images, it is more of the senses they have. Like when they think of salt, they might think of the smell, taste, texture as opposed to seeing it. I'm sure they focus in on a sense just like sighted people tend to focus in on site. It's the same but different.
Well, I do know they've done studies, and blind people, even when talking with other blind people, still gesture when they speak, just like a sighted person. So maybe thinking is no different, and they visualize things, but don't "see" the image. Like, some other studies I heard about, people with brain problems in that they can physically see, but not mentally. Their eyes and vision system in the brain is perfectly normal, but they cannot process the info they get. So, they'll flash a light in a dark room and the test subject is supposed to report when they do it. They can do it, but they have no knowledge of actually seeing the light. Crazy, eh?
if a person was blind from birth they will never naturally have a concept of sight if they took drugs, what they might percieve would probably not be thought of as sight but some other alien sense however people who had once seen would probably be subconsciously creating images in their head whenever. they did a study where they gave a guy who was blind, his eyesight. they actually got him to see. but since his brain hadnt developed that part of his brain in growing up, when he saw, he couldnt understand waht he was seeing. he didnt have the concept of 3 dimensions and perspective and stuff. he just saw everything as vague colours and stuff, which he eventually trained and understood. for example, when he first saw a big building, he was lookcing at it from an angle, and so he saw, due to perspective, a vertex of the building going up in a triangle shape, and thought it was a pyramid
