i think most of the travelling ones wouldn't have a prominent internet existance - the internet isn't that portable, and the ones who travel are probably the ones who don't bother too much with technology, even when they can afford it

not true! When I was out I was able to have access every week via the library. In fact, how I keep in touch w/ people traveling is through e-mail. Many people traveling are not always against all technology... like if it is used in moderation for things such as keeping contact and finding out information. It is more they disagree with the world and the things going on in it.

JimJam- there are plenty of kids out there, have you gone to a place like welcomehere.org and post on that your looking for a travel partner or ride?

Well, that is exactly what we want to do. And internet access is gonna be tough. I think we may have to hop from cell to cell with this thing on my laptop M-F, then relax weekends until summer when my job slows down. yes I'm a rainbow with a job. :) I'm not gonna let bills hold me back from Rainbowing, nor am I gonna let against-the-grainbows make me quit my job. ;-) (not that anyone's told me to) And, the kitchen has an internet bookstore at Amazon. You could come to Utah now and help us prepare. We are starting to do our food and internet cafe movies on weekends this month, then are heading out on the Rainbow trail next month. Arizona, NM, Colorado, Missouri, Kentucky then nationals. Then NE for maybe woodstock reunion, whatever, after that i finally don't care about 'planning' except for being back in Utah september. It'll be Rainbowing all the way with the internet sort of. Anyway, please, look at the website and you'll see we are one of what you speak! And yes, there are many more than just me and my Bob and kiddies!
Look for the rocks piled up ;) That's just a general rule in areas around where you hear rumours of Rainbows. Some homesteader Rainbows have rocks piled up by the road as clue, too. We plan to use them everywhere we go.

BobbinBecca- I like your site! Its great to hear you guys have got everything together the way you want it. I plan on the next time I leave to have a job while rainbowing too. I think its a little impossible, unsafe, and irresponsible to not when you have kids along with(JMO though) When are you guys coming to the NE?

Remember me PMing you a long time ago Earthy? I have nuclear family all around central and east PA. So I'm going to visit through there in late July after nationals. The kitchen may have gained its own force by then, so I don't know if I'll split off for a while or what will happen, but we'll all be around those parts then. Maybe we can caravan a while if our paths converge. My girl's two in May, and she has an older brother, so I bet she'd love playing with your little ones. :)

wow, that sounds like it could be a beautiful experience. i wish you and your pack all the best of luck. Its something that i would like to attempt to do in a few years when my life isn't so complicated. It also reminds me i need to get back to this book i am reading a book entitled "Mutant Message Down Under" about a mysical experience had by an American woman in Australia who is choosen by the traditionalist Aborigines to go on a walkabout into the outback that lasts for months.

that book is awesome, do you think its true?

it seems lots of folks are thinking of similar sorts of expeditions, gnarly! lets all become tribal humyns again. then when industrial civilization collapses we won't even notice. we'll just be out eating our dandylion greens and other wild goodies. .

I travel seven months year. For instance I am in Mexico right now, on my way to the gahthering in Vera Cruz. I keep in touch with everyone through emails. Internet access is incredibly easy to find and cheaper than phones when one is far away from home.

    Reguarding the Job thing
I have worked at a natural foods co-op for the past 2 years and I am losing it due to my current situation, I am pregnant. I think that's pretty lame. I already have a 2 year old and a place to live that's semi-permanent for now. I would love to travel but I think I have domesticated my kid so much with the life we are in now that taking her on the road would damage her traumatically. I plan on attending the nationals this year because my new baby is due June 30th and I could have her there. I have been to 5 nationals and I loved going but there was something always in me that wanted to come back to a home ya know? I am a college student now after 5 years of living in Humboldt and traveling, and now I am back in South Dakota wasting time learning what they want me to know. I feel I have learned just as much important knowledge on the road as I have in school. I just got sick of not having my own tub and other material things like that. It's hard to relax when you are not sure where you are going and what the true meaning is of what you're doing.
What I am getting at is.. Do you all really think that most rainbows don't have a "babylon" life? I mean the job, the house, the car ya know, all those worldly things that everyone else takes for granted. I guess I have worked so hard to get them all back after losing my VW bus to a crazed lunatic claiming to be "family" or whatever. I don't care, but I just think that in a way, my world and everything I have worked for still sets me free. I am still rainbow any way you want to look at it. I go to gatherings for a spiritual lifting and for family fun, not as a complete way of living from place to place. And I really don't believe a lot of the people I have seen there do the same. I am sure some do and more praise to them who can make it work. But I think this country has made it near to impossible to live that ideal way.
    What do you all think?

No Houston, nor more than that little panhandle of Texas, is in our cards I believe. There's a 4/20 OK gathering that may be a good place for you to go. We're about in travelling mode now, please check out the website in the sig for more info and you can email or PM me if you wish.

    OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHMMMMMMMMMMM
