I don't quite know what to make of this... http://interestalert.com/brand/siteia.shtml?Story=st/sn/03110002aaa05d83.upi&Sys=rmmiller&Fid=WORLDNEW&Type=News&Filter=World%20News Embedded in the same article: North Korea also postponed its legislative session, which was due to open this month, in an apparent bid to tighten domestic control over the people by fanning a sense of crisis across the country. In its New Year message, North Korea put top priority on preventing the influx of any capitalist culture into the closed society. Under the message, North Korean security agents have launched aggressive crackdown on "anti-socialist" behaviors in border areas since January. So far this year, North Korea has executed more than 60 citizens to warn its people against committing any "anti-republic" behaviors, such as illegal border crossing and information leakage, according to a Seoul-based relief group. "North Korea executed in public 60 people sent back from China in January," said the Headquarters for Protection of North Korean Defectors. The victims were repatriated to the North after failed attempts to find political asylum by forcing their way into a diplomatic compound in Beijing. Does this sound like they believe they might be loosing control? Or is this another facet of their diplomatic brinksmanship? A method of backing up their hot air at the conference table by beating the war drums on the home front. But then again, an animal is most dangerous when backed into a corner.
North Korea is on the verge of bankruptcy, so Kim Jong-il might be worried that his government will collapse because it is unable to fund adequate security.
North Korea has been on the verge of collapse for 10 years or so, I think is started about the time the Soviet Union crapped out. They have become adept at brinksmanship diplomacy. Their nuclear ambitions has been used as leverage coercing additional aid from the world. This strategy worked very well during the Clintion Administration. Through the efforts of ex-Pres. Carter, they were able to obtain aid and a free nuclear power plant (currently uncompleted since admitting to violating the treaty). I'm not so certain they have the bomb yet. I have wondered whether the same methods of analysis used determining whether Iraq had possession of the bomb are the same methods used determining whether North Korea has the bomb. A successfull test a nuclear device will clear up all doubt. On the other hand, 18 months - maybe 2 years ago, a large explosion occurred in a railway station Kim Jong-il's train had passed through hours earlier. Some has suggested this was an assassination attempt.
"So far this year, North Korea has executed more than 60 citizens to warn its people against committing any "anti-republic" behaviors, such as illegal border crossing and information leakage, according to a Seoul-based relief group." Probably bullshit, as North Korea abolished the penalty of death in... 1994, I believe.
More communist drivel. You know perfectly well that just because a state "officially" abolishes the death penalty, doesn't mean that there aren't extrajudicial killings taking place. I'm curious...Why do you make excuses for the atrocities committed by North Korea if you claim that they aren't a "real" communist nation?
If it wasn't official, how could this site "know" that the DPRK executed 60 people, on the reasons of "anti-republic behavior"? Either, it was official, which would be close to impossible, due to DPRK's abandonment of the penalty of death.... That rules this one out. The second possibility, and the most likely, is that this "news agency" created the story. It's a hoax. The third possibilty, which is very unlikely, is that they somehow "found out" that this has happened. How? Until we found out, this article has little credibility. Do you have any proof that they actually commited these "atrocities"? There is no such thing as a communist nation, because in a communist society, there will be no state, nor classes.
So you think North Korea is too honest to kill their own citizens and lie about it? This is a nation that sent spies to Japan to kidnap ordinary citizens. Also, nobody cares about your "communist nations don't exist" lie. Nations run by a communist party full of communists that are trying to acheive communism may as well be called communist, there is no reason to play word games with apologists like you.
