Cool that you want to grow it and dread it dude, but I can't help but shake my head at yr post. I mean no offense, but in today's society hair does not bestow power, hair does not signify protest, or anything like that; hair is just hair. If you want to protest something, then do it in a way people will understand and react positively to-- clearly, concisely, and courteously. Get involved, but don't think that by having long hair you're going to change the world; indeed, you may find that you have a hard time convincing "regular society" of the validity of your cause (a noble one, I'm sure) with long dreadlocks reeking of weed. Just my own two bits...

does it really matter what hand signals mean somewhere the guy isnt from. If wavin your hand means "go to hell" in mongolia is everyone hear goin to stop doin it. If you believe it means peace go with it, people shouldnt get so worked up over what a hand signal means. I had a friend do a photo for school, it was a bunch of different hands just makin random shapes, and she got called down to the office to be questioned about being involved in a gang even thou nobody involved was tryin to throw gang signs, people get too worked up over nothin....*whew* ok rant over
