What was up with Ross perot? I mean what were his policies? Was he a conservative? What was his plan for America?
He was more conservative than liberal, but not like George Bush or Bob Dole. Perot's policies tended to be more libertarian than theirs. He basically favored more economic freedom than Bush/Dole, and his policies on social issues were only slightly to the right of Clinton. Personally I liked Clinton better, but I think Perot would've implemented decent policies too.
Better than Bush, almost a certainty. I wasn't sure I trusted him because he sort of "owed" the Reagan administration for the policies that made him his billions. In addition, I wasn't about to throw away my vote on someone who wasn't to the left of the Democrats. For that matter, I didn't throw away my vote on Nader, and if I had been 21, rather than 20 and not yet of voting age, in 1968, it's likely I'd have voted for Humphrey, despite my support for McCarthy (Eugene, not Joe!), rather than let a pig like Nixon get in. When we have IRV—yeah, I know, dream on—then I'll vote first for a true leftist, then maybe another leftist, and then a Democrat. In the meantime, I know where my bread is buttered, even if the butter is a little rancid.
Just the presence of Perot in the debates and campaign stirred up the mud a little and made for better debates. There should be at least one third party candidate allowed in the Presidential debates no matter what, just to keep them lively. These two-person 'debates' of recent presidential campaigns are a joke.
That's not a bad comparison. Both of them were to the right of most Republicans on economic issues, but fairly moderate when it came to social issues.
