heh, research....what's the use????????????????? With you people it's always the appeal to pity..soooo predictable, anyway maybe later, got to go. Goddess Ohm, he can read, he just likes to stir the shit. Like the song says 'still a man hears what he wants to hear & disregards the rest....ooh lala la la lalala.' Why else would he be so aggressively, abusively, and yet totally uninformedly antagonistic?
Save the clubs. If all seal culling was ended what would happen to the clubs? You see where Im going? Eh? Well? Do you?
Certainly wouldn't be the first time an ARA wouldn't answer my post...as Yoda would say...no argument you have....
Alright, an extremely short search yielded: http://www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/seal-phoque/facts-faits/factsheet_e.htm Hey guess what, hunting seal pups isn't even legal! I wasn't aware of that actually, what is this petition for anyway? Maybe you should first concern yourself with reading my post there Mountain man. When I said "starve" I meant that the rural Inuit population has nowhere else to turn for an economy. Hey if it tastes good, eat it! I've killed plenty of cattle, hogs, sheep, chickens; and have had plenty of people watch me who didn't have a problem with it - it's not as big of a deal as you portray it to be. Overlogging...another pff please....I was talking about the forests that don't exist where the Inuits live, you know, sarcasm...
You are so beyond belief and do not even read what you are replying to. No one said it was illegal!!! The Canadian govt are sponsoring it, if you would care to read the first post. Then Peace be with you - I'd rather expend my energy stopping the suffering of humans and animals than to and fro-ing with...er...whatever you are.

Perhaps your soul is trying to tell you something about being humane and that is why you are so reactionary to this posting. I am sorry for you if I hit a nerve. Also, if you do read, we are talking about clubbing and skinning alive baby seals and leaving their bloody carcasses on the ice. Whatever you did with the sheep, pigs, cattle etc is your business. I hope you were humane in what you did...or at least will be in future.
I remember reading about when Paul Watson was incapacitated from hypothermia after sealers repeatedly dunked him in the ocean, and as he lay on the ice a sealer made sure he was watching and very gleefully and purposefully skinned it alive just to bug him.........that is one of the folks that diomedes is so selfrighteously defending and supporting, ignoring the points we make about them only taking the skins, and needlessly skinning many pups when they are still alive for speed's sake. You can have them Diomedes, that is just not my crowd.
I think his soul is in some pain. I feel sorry about that. I think he should forgive himself for anything in the past and look to make a better future. I am sure he is not a barbarian, and I hope when he kills anything in the future he will treat it with as much kindness and respect as he can, and not prolong its fear and suffering.
Seems like we have a new Brigitte Bardot lol, i do agree with you ,it's cruel but it's a source of revenues for the eskimo people.
To reiterate, this has nothing to do with the Inuit hunting for their livlihood. It is all about the skinning of baby seals. The carcasses are left to rot, the practices are cruel and inhumane, with quite a high percentage of them being skinned alive because the hunters want to get quick in an out with their loot. Frankly, I am tired of people crying "native" as a way of getting off the track of the argument. The native people are not cruel and wasteful. We all know that. These are hunter/slaughterers who have no compassion for their victims.
“A sealer near us quickly clubbed every seal within a small radius, to immobilize each of the pups, and then dragged the bodies to the center of his circle. One by one he flipped a seal on its back and skinned it. If the seal flipped around or fought against the skinning he’d flip it back to its stomach, club it several more times and then finish the skinning.” —IFAW Seal Hunt MonitorPlease save a seal today PLEASE ACT NOW BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE... Right now on the sparkling ice floes of Eastern Canada, hundreds of thousands of baby seals are about to die. In just a few short days, seals as young as 12 days of age will be clubbed and beaten over the head. Others will be shot with a rifle in open water, fighting for their lives ... many left to die under the ice or pulled onto boats with sharp metal hooks. 95% of the seals killed will be less than three months old. But there’s still time to help . If you were to witness this personally, your heart would break Some baby seals will be skinned alive. Their front flippers flailing violently, trying to squirm away as the knife finds them, blindly pawing and wrenching until they finally fall still. Seal hunting isn’t much of a challenge. Most seal pups lay on the ice alone and helpless before they are violently cut down. The sealers pour over the ice in their army of boats, snowmobiles and even a helicopter, leaving trails of blood in their wake. The baby seals lift their heads and try to cry out in anguish, but manage only a pathetic snarl before the club crushes their skull. After the seals are skinned, the carcasses are abandoned on the ice once the pelt and blubber are removed, left in piles like disposable laundry. The meat is never used. This senseless act of annual cruelty is actually supported by the Canadian government As many seals are killed today as during the 1950s and 60s when overhunting significantly pushed seals down the road towards extinction. You helped raise a global outcry that stopped the killing of whitecoat baby seals in the 1980s. But Canada’s politicians have since used hidden subsidies to expand the hunt again in order to win favor with the fishing industry. The Canadian government wants the media and the public to believe that no one cares about the innocent blood spilled each year across the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The sealing industry counts on the fact that most people still don’t know it’s happening. You can prove them wrong
It's tugging at heart strings to show a picture of a very cute white coat baby harp seal and to say that is what you are fighting for. No, it is not. It is quite illegal to hunt for white coat seals. The seal population currently sits at over 5 million animals. They are hunted for their pelts, meat and blubber for seal oil. The products are primarily sold to Norway and China. They are not hunted because the Canadian government is a cruel, uncaring body. The sealers are not out on the ice because they have no heart. If you have any sense of the economy of Newfoundland (where almost all the sealers live) you would know these men are risking their lives doing very dangerous work, simply to bring home a few dollars to buy groceries for their families, buy clothes for their kids, and maintain a little dignity by earning a living. Most of the sealers would rather be out fishing for cod. Unfortunately the cod population has been decimated, partly due to human overfishing, and partly due to the explosion of the seal population. The human element has been eliminated by imposing a morotorium on cod fishing. The next step is to cull the seals. We're not talking about eliminating seals, or putting them on the brink of extinction. We're talking about eliminating 375,000 out of 5 million. The seals will be in no danger at all of dying out. I hear arguements that this hunt is not economically or ecologically feasable. I hear numbers thrown around that the $17-million dollars in revenue is nothing in the large scale of things. Being in Newfoundland is not the same as being in Toronto, or New York, or London. It is not nearly as expensive to maintain a decent standard of living. This $17-million is vital for these people. As far as ecology, as previously stated, the cull doesn't damage the long term prospects for seals. It does, however, give the cod a bit of a chance at recovery. Seals, you see, don't sit there and simply eat cod after cod. They take a bite out of one, and move on to another. Take a bite out of that, then another, and another. So, instead of killing 10 fish to fill themselves, they will chew on 50-100 fish. Multiply that by 5 million animals. Can you see why the Canadian government would want to reduce the number of animals? I would argue that this policy makes perfect ecological sense. It would be irresponisble on the part of the Canadian government not to step in, and make the choice to try to reverse the plight of the cod fish. Does the seal hunt look brutal? Yes it does, but hunting of any sort isn't pretty. Is it more brutal than a slaughterhouse for cows, or the penned up chickens, or how calves are treated to keep the meat tender for veal? What about wolf culls? What about buying cheap goods made in sweat shops? Or not providing adequate protection for sex trade workers who end up dead in some alley? Are these things not brutal? How about the prospect of families of Newfoundlanders without enough food or clothes? Think about what is really important here. Don't fall for the propoganda from Peta or Greenpeace. Real people, with real needs will be affected if the anti-seal lobby gets their way. I would challenge every anti-seal activist to make a donation to cover the food, clothing, medical, housing and transportation costs of every affected Newfoundlander. If you're not willing to put your money where your mouth is, then what do you suggest these people do?
You know, I doubt anyone in here is saying it's a good idea to take food away from school children to save seals. However, I'm not buying that it's "the only way" to put food on the table. If a job conflicts with my beliefs, I don't settle. I get a different job. It's also interesting that you provide no statistics from viable sources, unlike some of the people who are REGULARS here. As far as the cod thing goes, if the seals eat them all and die as a result, that's a natural process. Maybe humans should stop consuming cod and leave the seals and cod to their own business. Here's an idea: Look into alternative food supplies and hire people to work for THESE companies.
Don't settle. Get a different job? WHAT DIFFERENT JOB?????? Take a peek at the economy of Newfoundland. I don't have "facts" like the REGULARS? Like the 5 million seals estimated on the ice flows? (a fact you can easily find out by checking almost any reputable source), the estimated income the seals bring in? the 17-million? What exactly are you disputing? As far as leaving the cod alone? Where exactly do you live? How about all of Montana stop cattle ranching and look for alternate food sources? Or all of Idaho stop growing potatoes? That's not how things work. For hundreds of years, cod were fished off the coast of Newfoundland. Factory trawlers, and foreign overfishing effectively killed this industry. These people don't have much more. The seal hunt is well needed cash for many families. Newfoundlanders are among the finest people I have ever met, and I would not deny them the chance at a little dignity. I would never suggest someone work in a profession against their beliefs, but to try to condemn people with alternate beliefs is not cool.
Amusing that you still provide no source. See, this is what you do when you don't cite a source for your information: Hey, everyone, 12% of all otters have white bellies. Okay... Saying something doesn't make it so without a valid source. Also, thanks to new industries and the internet, there are all sorts of work from home opportunities and chances for expansion within the community. I didn't say drop it all at once, but if a source is running low, you look for alternate plans while there is still a viable source left. There are better methods other than destroying life.
