this story was forwarded to me this morning. i am utterly sickened! has anyone heard about this? does anyone know any more about the case?

i think what angers me the most is that he is a student, and was turned in by his grandparents, who have no remorse for ruining their grandson's life over a short story that they didn't like, that in times of intolerance and oppression the ones we crush the hardest are our own children and youth.

disgusting! why isn't the ACLU on this? i couldn't find mention of it on their website.

Oh, yes, he needs psychiatric help... and so do all other horror/SF/fantasy writers & aspiring writers. Hm, I better go turn myself in, too... :p

Oh yes, very clever to associate communism with every negative thing happening in the world, even when it happens in Capitalist countries. All this proves is that free trade does not imply freedom of speech.

i imagine that's next. when my son was born, i was heavily into goth, and i had put "wicca" down on the hospital forms as my religion. one doctor (4th year resident) and a fundamentalist christian nurse, tried to start a formal investigation to have my son taken away from me before i'd even seen him, to protect him from "satanic abuse". i was on welfare at the time, and he assumed i wouldn't know my rights. all he succeeded in doing was humiliating himself, pissing off a lot of people, including other doctors, and getting the hospital threatened with a lawsuit.

i think the reason why intolerance preys upon students, expecially eccentrics, learning "disabled" or those who hold unpopular views, is because they are young enough to not know their rights, frequently don't know they're entitled to a lawyer even if they can't afford one, and are therefore easy targets for bullying, in the guise of "protecting youth". the ACLU has a lots of information on students' rights. those of you who are young, please start educating yourself, and hope you never need it.

"Subject was in possession of writings [and] materials that outlined possible acts of violence towards police, teachers and students at the high school."

    What exactly does that mean?

This is absolutely inexcusable. What's next? Are the people involved with Dawn of the Dead going to be arrested too? Are all writers of zombie fiction considered terrorist threats to the US? How can people not see that our gov't has gone WAY too far with all their fear-mongering?!?

That poor kid. Even if this all blows over he will be left in debt up to his eyeballs for all the legal representatin he will need. Not to mention being tramuatized by the very gov't that is here to protect him. Hopefully he will take anything good he can from this.

Forget Bin Laden and Saddam: Zombies are the true terrorist threat to America. Invade Russia, Pakistan, India, Egypt and Mexico because they are suspected of having unknown quantities of Zombies of Mass Destruction.

Hey, this is my 256th post :p

Jesus christ, that's really ridiculous. All my school work involving writing stories or drawing was about zombies, monsters, murderers and violence (the more blood the better) for a large period in my school career, and that started way before high school.

For my next project, I'm going to write a story about how police arrest someone for making zombie stories. I wonder if they will arrest me too for making a story about zombie stories?

But yet, lo and behold the man who oversaw the organisation of death squads responsible for killing hundreds if not thousands of Central American peasants and even American nuns on mission in Nicaragua is raised first to UN Ambassador and ultimately to head of the US intelligence community. Nevermind the numerous other convicted (but of course conveniently pardoned) felons and other as yet uninvestigated and uncharged corporate criminals of which this admin is comprised.

Nice to see that the real criminals in our nation are duly held accountable to this supposed "rule of law" of which we hear so much about.

Hoo boy. Ain't that just peachy. They're probably really going to hate this: What To Do If The Shit Hits The Fan.

Of course, I'm quite aware of my right to free speech and self-defense, so I'm not exactly a 'soft target' like most high school kids. This is an absolute atrocity, and we should not stand by and let bullshit like this go on. A high school kid was charged with a felony for writing a fictional story which involved no real persons or places, and they are calling it fucking TERRORISM?!? This kid's life is permanently fucked because of a story he wrote, by pursuing this case everyone involved has dealt a horrible blow to freedom and justice in this country.

    What...

    The...

    FUCK???

I don't know about anyone else, but I am calling the ACLU as soon as I am done writing this. Ok, I'm done writing this.

I want to read the material myself. Also, this kid, if he wins out, should contract somebody to make a comic book out of his story. That would be a cool collectors item.
