Hello, I'm SeekingSymmetry. Please feel free to call me Symm for short. I've long been searching for an online community to call home and I honestly feel as though I have just discovered Hippy Heaven. (Please note that I mean absolutely no negative connotations in that description.) I am an American by birth, though I recently relocated to Spain with my husband, and I feel more deeply European in my heart with every passing day. Learning the language is the most difficult challange that I am facing since our move, and I would love any opportunity to speak with other members in Español. I do sincerely hope that I will be welcomed to this community ...as for me; it is a welcome sight for sore eyes.
Just thought i would introduce myself . The names Darren (Mr Iceman) This is to welcome you to THF from me Just be yourself and i hope that you make many many life long friends on the forums and share in the spiritual love that is offered...
Hey Symm, and welcome! Nice member name. I've always wanted to go to Europe and see what its like, although at the same time not come off as a tourist. I cant speak another language, so I guess I'm shit outta luck on that one. -Faith
Thank you very much for the welcome Bedlam and euphoria. That's no excuse Faith. I moved here with my husband last year and didn't speak a word... and I'm still just learning. Europe is wonderful. Don't allow you to talk yourself out of visiting. I doubt that you would ever regret it and you'd probably enjoy it even more if you would bring some of your friends with you. As for not comming off like a tourist... don't worry and just go with it. If you are polite and use common sense you'll be perfectly fine. Symm
Hi Symm and welcome to T.H.F, I'm fairly new here myself but feel like I've found somewhere I belong allready, I,m sure you will make many friends as I hope to. Be happy and enjoy good luck learning your new launguage.
Hey Symm, Nice to hear about that you feel European.. Early 70's I travelled through Southern Spain.. and I can tell you I liked,Malaga,Motril,Granada, Sevilla,Algericas,Jerez and Cadiz.. and you'lll find your way in life..and in such a beautiful surrounding like Spain..well..life can't be BAD.. Keep on smiling..and don'forget..today is the first day of the rest of your life.. old tiger(Belgium)
Hello old tiger, hip_peace & all_rhodesian_reject My husband's family has been living in Andalucia since the mid 80's and they constantly tell me how drastically things have changed over such a short period of time, but the rich beauty of Spain's heretage is still wonderfully overwhelming to me. I've not had the chance to explore Motril, Sevilla, Algeciras, Jerez or Cadiz yet, but I've really enjoyed Mijas, Cordoba, Malaga, Granada, and Madrid, and have plans to visit every place that I possibly can. My husband and I also have a deep affection for the UK's Gibraltar because we were married there.
Seekingsymmetry, Your husband's family are right..Spain has drastically changed.. tourist boom..25 years ago Torremolinos was only a fishing village.. same thing with Benidorm..the real Spain you'll discover inland.. in these sleeping little villages..take some tapas in a small village café.. try to talk+mix with the locals..and don't act like a tourist..just a few words of Spanish..a smile..and you'll discover the mentality of people who survive in rural Spain..far away from the golden beaches.. and sure..Spanish is not easy...but try it anyway..you'll never regret.. Hasta la vista... old tiger(Belgium)
