I woke up the other morning and my teeth and gums felt weird. It felt as if I'd been clenching my teeth the whole night or something. My mouth also feels really dryI don't know how to explain it. Its a very uncomfortable feeling, and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Its been like this off and on for almost 2 weeks. I tried explaining it to my mom and boyfriend, and they both looked at me like I was crazy, and suggested I go to the dentist. I'll go eventally, but I really hate the dentist. It doesn't hurt, and it doesn't look like I have any cavities (though I wouldn't know, because I've never had one before).
I've been kind of stressed lately and I think maybe that has something to do with it?

You are probably just clenching them in your sleep....I do it occasionally and when I wake up my teeth feel a little soar (almost like they are loose...its weird). If it's a problem for you then a dentist can give you a night guard for your mouth. I don't think it's a big deal if it happens every now and then but I don't think it's good for your teeth if it happens almost every night. The dry mouth I don't know about....are you taking any allergy medication? Sometimes I take benadryl before bed and it does sort of make my mouth feel very dry in the morning.

Hi Elle, thanks for your reply!!It sounds like you've experienced the same thing. They feel better today, so I guess I am just clenching them in my sleep. I get paranoid sometimes, so I just wanted to hear someone else's opinion.

I still don't know about the dry mouth, either. I'm not taking any allergy medicine, so I don't know.

I don't know about the dry mouth part, but I clench my teeth a lot at night, sometimes I'll do it every night for a week or two and sometimes I wont do it for a couple months. When I do it for a while I my teeth/jaw hurts all day and I get really bad headaches from it. I havn't seen dentist yet, but I aslo havn't had insurance for a couple years. You should go see a dentist, just in case, you don't want it to get worse.

It sounds like you are grinding your teeth in your sleep. Are you under any unusual stress? Try an anti-inflammatory, such as naproxen, before bed with a small snack.

apparently i do this too, my dentist gave me a mouthguard to wear at night, which i absolutely can't do. i've tried putting it in when i went to bed, but i wake up with it across the room, i must be throwing it in my sleep, lol.

i've noticed i do it more the more caffeine i have in my system. try cutting down a little on any caffeinated sodas or coffee and see if that helps.
