A lady online from Denmark said that countries like Denmark and Sweden are not a socialist countries at all, even if that is what they call it in the US. And in my HS government class too, as I told her in 1986. Here:

    AI Overview

No, Sweden and Denmark are not socialist countries; they are capitalist market economies with extensive, high-quality welfare states, best described as social democracies, featuring free markets alongside universal healthcare, education, and strong social safety nets funded by high taxes. They operate on the "Nordic Model," combining capitalism with social solidarity, not state ownership of production.

Key characteristics of Sweden and Denmark:

Capitalist Economies: They rely on open, free-market systems, global trade, and private enterprise to generate wealth, not centrally planned economies.

Extensive Welfare States: They provide generous social security, healthcare, and education, funded through high taxes, particularly VAT and income taxes.

Social Democracy: This model blends capitalist economic structures with a commitment to social equality and universal welfare, a concept often confused with socialism.

Market-Oriented: Policies have increasingly focused on market competitiveness, attracting investment, and reducing business taxes, even while maintaining social protections.

In essence, they use the profits from successful capitalism to fund social programs, a system distinct from traditional socialism, which involves state control over the means of production.

I know i shouldent but.......You(or the AI) are basicly right(imo)....................so what is the point/question?

You have to combine socialisme(society/people) with capitalisme(finance/economy) and find a balance........in current mess.....no they are not pure socialist. As China or Russia are not communist........also capitalist?

The world is run for the most part by banks and the world of finance/economy..............some country s more then others, but still dependent on eachother. Thats the stupid part...........:D

And just capitalisme(or communisme) is not that great either, looking at the US. It is more finding a healthy balance, i guess.................if you keep putting stuff in boxes(left/right/black/white/ect)...........you get stuck in your thinking imo.

I think of a socialist country, as where the everyday people are held down, allowing the elite to live a life of luxury.
Perhaps the best example is North Korea, where everyone is held down to pay for the KimJohn family hair cuts, along with clothes that are large enough to fit them..

Thank you all for your replies. And just to finish what I was saying, employers should give their workers a good working wage. That's not socialism, that's only fair and right. Like child labor laws, for example. They should provide medical care and reasonable working hours. And leisure time, reasonable leisure time, is a right not a privilege. And socialism? You mean when the government owns things? Like roads, libraries, parks, etc. in the US? That one woman from Denmark told me they don't call it socialism. They have extensive government aid to the poor, social programs for everyone and taxing the rich. And it's called the Scandinavian socialist model or nordic model. Call it strawberry jam if you want. But it's only right and it works.

    I agree.
We do not see ourselves as socialists here but the UK, but the government regulates our main infrastructures, giving us all access to health care, utilities and transport. Things like this are needed in any correctly organised country.

Basically most Scandinavian countries are social democratic and not socialist. However most are also slightly to the left of the present Labour government we have here in the UK. It's now Labour in name only.

The biggest stumbling block to socialist success anywhere are the massive trade sanctions imposed by western capitalist governments. There's also lies spread by the media who spoon feed is daily.
