I used to be a piper, and wore kilts for years. I never liked canvas "utility kilts", but preferred more traditional tartan ones. Companies like Atlanta Kilts and Stillwater Kilts make some really nice off-the-rack viscose kilts that are affordable. Even so, a kilt can be bloody hot and sweaty in Florida (but Florida's hot and sweaty by nature, hence my preference for being naked whenever possible), but they're still better than a pair of heavy denim blue jeans.

I'm nude most of the time but when I need to cover up I often use a Tartan Sport Kilt with velcro closure, more like a wrap than a typical kilt. It is my go to garment for driving and I unfasten it after buckling in. Also It is handy to wear when it isn't convenient to carry a towel to sit on. When I go to a reenactment fair I have a more traditional buckle up kilt that I'll wear.
