I've heard people say they remember phone booths. But "phone booth" is a deceptive name. They had payphones ON WALLS outside of buildings till the early 2000s. The last phoneBOOTH I saw in my area was around 1980.

Cop stopped some friends and I one night in 1956---said "alright you boys--who's been a-pissin" and a- shittin' in the phone booths around here"?? We didn't know, but odd place to relive ones self.

You didn't live in NYC in the 60s. They all smelled like a sewer.
