I always wanted to ask. What do you Brits still do in Lammas Day? It was today. Did you even know that.

In case you don't know, Lammas is a corruption of the word "loaf-mass". It was the day the first fruits of the harvest were blessed in a special mass. It still occurs in US almanacs because it corresponds to the time of year when Summer peaks. It's the hottest time of the year here, and also the so-called dog days of Summer.

I don't know what the weather is like now in the UK and the rest of western Europe. I once heard in western Europe Summer begins May 1st. Is that true?

Thanks for telling us about Lammas Day; I hadn't heard of it. I don't think it is observed in England.

What was I doing on August 1? I'm sorry to say I was ill! I had a respiratory virus. I went for a walk . Apart from that all the usual things, listen to music, had a glass of wine, watched a film . fed Billy (cat) and let him in and out.
