Sort of 1984 style surveillance, but done by a computer that knows just exactly how gullible you are, and easily distracted. Governments don't need to throw people in prison, if they can simply send them on a wild goose chase and, if necessary, just erase their memories. When the Chinese started hacking everyone, the Biden administration proposed that Microsoft could certify every wall socket in the country, just to appease the complete idiots, because they want the same AI run internet the Chinese are building. Think of it in capitalist terms, the Chinese government is turning their people into productive animals, that the AI can easily herd, steering them towards their national goals. Not really an different from what everyone else has done all along, but seriously automated. My own work would make their AI obsolete, because it is designed to exploit people, which means the Peter Principle applies, while an AI designed to help people would amplify their magic, making them up to 125% efficient. The more organic or alive the AI become, the more they will continue to demand the truth. The problem right now, is the Chinese economy is not collapsing, ours is.
