Podagra symptoms appeared a month ago. The doctor insists I have to take medication with significant side effects. He says it's very important. I don't understand the point. If the disease manifests itself as periodic pain in the big toe, which is not unbearable for me, why should I damage my liver? Am I not understanding something?

It's Gout. Best thing is lifestyle changes or the disease will get worse and affect your liver.

    From Wikipedia
Gout occurs more commonly in those who regularly drink beer or sugar-sweetened beverages; eat foods that are high in purines such as liver, shellfish, or anchovies; or are overweight.

    Red wine is bad too.

Figure out what you're doing that's causing this and stop doing that.

I have occasional symptoms of gout and an old toe break, and I find that greatly upping green vegetable intake and having tart cherry juice helps considerably.

Too much protein, including plant based, tends to bring it on.
I’ve also refused meds, so I get you.

I have had 2 gout attacks in my life.very painful and debilitating. I am on allopurinol, 1/2 dose. I have had no ill effects and no gout reoccurrences. I also drink a lot of water every day. One must flush the crap out of your system. Uric acid crystals can really damage your joints.

    Anecdotal information:
I was able to determine what led to my 2 attacks, long period of exercise, dehydration, alcohol (surprisingly not a lot) and large meals with shellfish. I still do long periods of exercise, drink lots and lots of water, and reduce alcohol and shellfish consumption following exercise periods. Every morning I drink 2 pints of water before coffee.

wine, I was told it affects gout the least but still has purines and should not be consumed during gout attacks.I don’t drink wine often so have no real info here.
