Abyle, As I understand it, you think that women can use the word "****", but men shouldn't. Perhaps similar to the word "queer" and homosexuals 15 years ago?
EVERYONE CALM DOWN! This was a light-hearted post, a light-hearted thread...Stop blowing things out into a pc/feminist/sexism debate....I mean, good lord....Step away from the knife and take a chill pill! *attempts to pass a peace pipe around*
"ownership"? Last I checked Words weren't 'owned' by any specific Race/Sex/Creed/etc. The crap...I mean plot thickens...
NO! That, IMO, is offensive, coming from a man or a womyn. Why do we have to use sexual organs as insults? Sexual organs are beautiful, and so is sex, yet they have been cheapened by using them to insult others. FTR, I won't be using the word. I still don't like it, (althought that one post still struck me as funny, just way she said it) and I still feel it is too damaged a word to be reclaimed. But, hey, I could be wrong. Maybe it is my age and my generation and the fact that I lived in times where chauvenism and sexism was expected, totally tolerated, and the norm. Look at AAs and BAs. Some black people have no problem using the word ni**er, some are still VERY offended by the usage of it, even from people of their own community. A white person using this word is MUCH more offensive than a black person using it. "Fag" coming from a Gay man is not as offensive to other gay people than that same word coming from a Straight. Likewise, if one chooses to use the word "****" it is and will be more offensive coming from a man.
There's a thread about the VM right now. Right below this one. (Or as one womyn I knew called it "The Down There Monologues."
That's the funniest thing ever! I love when people are talking about their genitals and say, "You know, down there..."
dude, me and friend reclaimed the word **** in moscow on the 12th of february as we trudged throught he snow in an attempt to find out way back to the hotel we stayed at and had an arguement with a male friend over the word. yes, very interesting conversation for 4 absolutely exhausted people
Have any of you read the book **** by Inga Muscio? If you have not read it you should. For the ones who read the book, what did you think of it? I like the idea of reclaiming the word ****. If **** is used in possitive content...great, if **** is used as a derogetory slur I tend to call it out.
