I have noticed...dont really know if this matters .....but the majority of the rushing sinking feelings come on the breath out...before I breath in again...and then it is like time seems to stop..that feeling rushes in for a good 30 seconds and then the next thing I am aware of is breathing again.

Dunno if that is significant in anyway

I know EXACTLY the falling sensation you are speaking of. It's almost similar to the feeling I get on a rollercoaster.

At first I got really scared and opened my eyes up, but since then I have tried to allow it to happen without resisting it. Its very hard for me to keep my muscles and body relaxed when this happens.

Another thing I have noticed is this sensation happens to me sometimes after I smoke bud. I will be chilling with some friends and close my eyes for a few seconds, and before I know what is happening I feel like I'm falling through the air.

A crazy sensation to be having when your friends are sitting around you and they have no clue.

I'm not sure what causes this sensation and would be very intersted in finding out.
