Hehe I have to chuckle... I know, but perspectives do change when you're older. And you see your parents in a new light when you become a parent. In lots of ways of course but in this context you're fully aware of all you've done and do and expect do keep doing, and it's typical to think our parents were always goody two shoes, with the example they try to give. Eventually you come to realize that it's okay that they were curious and experimentative and did things they enjoyed and don't regret yet try to keep them from you lest they be accused of giving a bad example. My dad was a widower for half of my childhood, and then as a older teen I started thinking.... is my dad living a 'normal' life? And I hoped that he was. So I'm probably not quite normal in that regard. But maybe thinking about Mom in that way would be very something else.....

Its interesting that people don't trust the pill.

My wife hates condoms and as long as I have known her she has never used them. She always took the pill (until she had her tubes tied). We never had a problem (as long as she took them as she was supposed to). And we have also had an open relationship for many years as well, no condoms, ever.

Since we have been together, there are two times that she did not take the pill. Both times I was travelling and not able to make sure that she was taking them. The first time we are pretty sure she got pregnant, because her next period was 2 1/2 weeks late and very painful. The second time she got pregnant with my son.

But overall, she took the pill for many years, and I made sure she took them each night, and never got pregnant during those years.

 

I agree they are not exactly sexy, unfortunately they are practical though if you are practicing safe sex. In my current relationship we had an agreement in place for all of us to be tested and I am on birth control so we decided that it was ok to go without

I have told on other posts I am a nurse and with all the modern vaccines and preventative drugs, including new one in development, it is possible to be quite safe without condom. Of course still more risk than no sex at all, but when look at people in for treatment, sometimes ( a lot ), failure in condom use especially if alcohol or drugs are factor. If you wish to play without condom, best to discuss all option with your doctor. But you must be honest about what you do.
