Is always dressing up a bad thing? I am always extremely overdressed. I love it!

I often feel powerful and confident, thought sometimes I feel like I can be accidentally intimidating (I’m 6 foot tall”). I’ve learned to be a little extra friendly or goofy with new people so they don’t get that impression.

When I’m feeling low self esteem sometimes I feel too big, and get very self conscious about being larger than other women. But usually I can get out of that headspace by putting on a badass outfit that only a very tall statuesque woman could pull off.
.My parents are extremely rich. I grew up rich.
I am dressing up everywhere (even for grocery shopping ). The whole shebang, satin/leather/shiny pants/skirts, satin/silk blouses, pantyhose, shapewear, high heels, full make up on, be it morning, noon or evening.
Most of my outfits are well-coordinated in terms of color
I love my style and get lots of compliments on my clothes. . But I I moved here in this small town with my family about four months ago. My husband was a successful businessman. I come from old money. I grew up rich. I admit that i am used to a lot of money and expensive things because of this. My husband always wanted to move to a rural area, so we moved here because is very near our son's boarding school. We bought a house. I hate it here. The nearest mall is an hour away. My clothing makes me stick out like a sore thumb in this town. I am always dressed up to the max, on high heels, full make up on. My husband enjoys this new life. He bought flannels and work jeans. Completely ditched his old wardrobe, starting buying guns, and getting excited about doing REAL camping. I hate all of it. I hate the flannels on him, I hate having a gun around, and I've ALWAYS hated the rustic camping he loves. Our kids love it here too.

However, some acquaintances here in this town think I overdress for daily activities. What's your opinion on the topic, does dressing up harm my image? Will people think I am stuck up? Do I make a mistake by overdressing?

On the other hand I feel confident this way, so i don't want to dress down .

You are a giant goddess Lorna. I am mesmerized by you. You are absolutely fabulous! Sounds like these people in your town may be intimidated by how you dress and carry yourself. Then when you dress as they do, they feel more comfortable. Clearly the issue is theirs. They should be saying "you dress so beautifully". They sound a bit jealous.

You are a colossal mesmerizing woman. Maybe those people in your town just don't rate "looking good" and "dressing well" as very high on their priorities. And it's ok. Just don't compare yourself to people who don't have the same priorities as you.

Thanks for your support. I literally had people in this town tell me that before they met me they hated me because I was overdressed which means I must be a high maintenance bitch, snob, and diva, and they were “surprised” to find out I’m nice. You are right. Overdressed is compliment when it comes from haters. Honestly, I think it just makes others insecure for not putting in as much effort, so they feel the need to point it out. This is not a jab at how anyone else dresses by the way, but I’m not going to dress down just because others are. I LOVE dressing up for just about any occasion.

Overdressed is a lot more fun! Always overdressed! There's nothing worse than being under dressed. It just feels so embarassing. I would rather be hated for looking extra than sloppy.

I dress how I dress. I have my thing which I like, and I don’t apologize for it. I get comments…which is maybe a bit uncomfortable, I wear what I wear because I like it and I’m not doing anything which obviously would solicit comments. Button-up shirts, or sometimes polos with bright friendly colors or bold prints, shorts which are color matched and flip flops in summer, pants and shoes in the cold season. I’m a watch guy and kinda vain, so that’s a process in and of
Itself. I think at the end of the day I’m just me and I have my own metric for how I want to look. It’s awesome for me, and the rest is just fluff:

People love to be judgemental, it's a favourite hobby for them, so just as many people will judge you for dressing down as much as others will judge you for dressing up. They'll judge you for being a bigger lady, and they'll judge you for being thin and of smaller stature. In response, just do what makes you feel comfortable, because you're not doing it to please anyone else and you won't be able to please them all anyway. If you feel good, then that's all that matters. You look very stylish and extremely well groomed. It shows you take pride in your appearance, and that's a good trait.

Hi Lorna. I'm a lot like you, I'm 5'11" and I take a size 16 dress. In heels which I almost always wear, I am taller than most women and some men. I live and work in NYC so being fully dressed in heels and hose is almost expected. But being tall is an enormous advantage in doing business with men. We usually see eye to eye and there is no little woman here.

Well, I didn't expect to find myself in a fashion forum!! Lol
I like nice clothes and I think it's always better to be overdressed than under-dressed. (By under-dressed, I mean in very casual clothes; not nude. Though I am nudist.

    Anyway:
@Big Lorna - be yourself. You can't be anyone else. It might be possible that some people you refer to, in what sounds like a small town, don't like people who are different. Maybe they feel small but, if they do, it's their problem.

@Rhonda1234 - you sound great. I love when a female dresses up and does today what in the 80s was called power dressing. You a bit taller than I and with your heels on you're a lot taller. It doesn't bother all guys. It isn't intimidating for many. Any guy who would feel intimidated has his own issues to work through. They're not your concern x

Hi Loma, On another dating site I posted my picture in jeans and a non descript top. No response. Then I posted a picture of me wearing a black cocktail dress, hose and tall sext heels. Wow did I ever get responses. Apparently men like their women to look 100% woman. I'll post that picture here if I am ever allowed to
